🚨 WE DIDN'T JUST PASS ONE HOUSING BILL LAST SESSION ON AFFORDABILITY. THE SENATE PASSED FOURTEEN. And this was 2025, ahead of the national affordability crisis of 2026! No other state passed the same amount of affordability legislation as Texas, and we did it BEFORE the crisis!
This includes Vice Chair Senator
@BryanHughesTX’s SB 840, and my own SB 2477, which cuts municipal red tape for converting commercial buildings to residential multifamily by right — no traffic studies, no extra parking mandates, no design requirements that jack up construction costs. Britawallace with
@TXReasSolutions said that Senate Bill 840 has already added 9,200 housing units, and Trey Lary said that another one of my bills, 88R SB 2038, in the near term will 10X stronger.
A major issue surfaced, and every attorney on OUR dais HEARD it: SOME CITIES ARE NOT FULLY COMPLYING WITH THE LAW. So
@SenRoyceWest,
@PhilKingTX, and Senator Hughes volunteered on the dais to ask Grand Prairie, Frisco, and Arlington what exactly their issue is with compliance. So I drafted them as Chair and Co-Chairs of the work group. TEXAS PASSED these laws. Now the cities can COMPLY, or come explain themselves before the committee.
I just want to commend a great group of Senators, as appointed by Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, who have tremendous knowledge of Local Government issues in
#TxLege.
