Voter fraud is far too common. And California is ground zero.
Case in point:
Lodi, California elected Pakistani-born Shakir Khan to City Council in 2020.
He won by 282 votes.
Investigators found 70 voter registrations tied to his home, his email and his phone.
23 of them used his own address.
41 ballots were found stashed at his house.
Body cam caught voters saying he pressured them.
Some said he signed their ballots for them.
That's not all.
The case also covered illegal gambling, money laundering, tax evasion and COVID unemployment fraud.
Khan, 36, is Pakistani-born.
He resigned in 2023 after his arrest on the election charges.
He pleaded no contest to 77 counts.
71 are felonies.
His sentence was 3 years in county jail, with 1 of those years suspended.
That's it. 3 years. Serving 2 at the most.
His lawyer says he could be out in about a year.
If he violates supervision, an 8-year prison term is waiting for him.
Break the rules and he serves it.
They tell us voter fraud doesn't happen.
It happened in Lodi. And it won.
