Systems programming, local AI inference & optimisation. @AveEuropae

Today is Ukraine's independence day, and through Kyiv paraded unmanned ground vehicles, autonomous maritime drones on the Dnipro, combat drones and aircraft overhead. This is the reality of war in 2026. Ukraine built all of this while under fire, in just four years: one of the greatest feats of wartime engineering of our lifetime. And Ukraine did not build it only for itself. For over four years it has been the shield of the whole continent from the russian invader, even when the whole West thought they had no chance to survive even the first days of the invasion. They've now not only stopped a war that was always aimed further west, but are winning it. What paraded through Kyiv today is at the core of today's fight. Europe has the biggest opportunity, thanks to Ukraine: finally build a united defence, centred around one of the most advanced, innovative and combat-ready armies in the world. A European common defence can only be built with Ukraine at the centre. And that's what Ukraine wants. Now it's up to us to take that opportunity. Слава Україні 🇺🇦

AfD-Chair Weidel says it like it is: "The war in Ukraine, unlawfully begun by Russia" Just like Le Pen a few weeks ago: Notably more confrontational stance towards Russia. Good. Keep up the pressure!
German AfD Leader Alice Weidel on Ukraine: Please sit down at the table with the Ukrainians, with the Russians and with the Americans in order to end the fighting in Ukraine. The war in Ukraine, unlawfully begun by Russia — we always say that as well — must be ended as quickly as possible through a negotiated solution. This war has become a security risk, above all for Europeans and first and foremost for the Federal Republic of Germany.

Absolutely no reason to be an AI doomer now. We just went through a huge fear-mongering campaign. Start persecuting the labs for the incidents they let happen and you'll see how quickly this AI doomerism, panic creation spiral ends lol. The incidents were negligence on their part, all of them, even targeted attacks in some cases. And what happened? Open models came to the rescue. Small teams with open models were able to withstand huge swarms of agents running on the biggest datacenters in the world. Yes, that's how dangerous this whole deal actually was. It's simple: the American labs are scared of open source and realise their business model is shit, there's no hope to make any profit, and their $1 trilion evaluation sounds dumber and dumber every day. So they want to get regulatory control and ban open source altogether. Regarding RSI, still many open questions and gaps to be filled to get close to that. Many argue LLMs are not the way to get there anyway at all. We're just not there yet. Anthropic said "there will be biolab incidents this year because of AI", but it hasn't happened yet because they haven't finished building their biolab yet...
I am absolutely not an AI doomer. I still don’t see any reason to be one. I’m a doomer for other reasons though.

Pedro Sánchez is sabotaging Schengen by refusing to secure Europe’s external borders in Ceuta and through mass legalisations and naturalisations of non-European migrants. In an ideal world, Brussels would long ago have stripped his government of border management rights, as Spain’s behaviour threatens all of Europe. He is a traitor and must go to stabilise the EU.
A defeat for Pedro Sánchez in Spain’s snap election risks destabilizing the EU by putting the Socialists and Democrats on the back foot in Brussels and pushing them into a more confrontational stance. vist.ly/5m6w5

🇪🇺 Respect for @MistralAI for actually getting close now 38th in intelligence and only just behind the Chinese open weight models like DeepSeek, GLM and Kimi and ahead of any US open weight model! It shows Europe can still do stuff if they just all get on the same page 👏
Meet Mistral Large 4, aka Le Chonk. • 1T parameters, natively multimodal. 49B active. It is the best open weights model from US or Europe on aggregated benchmarks. • State-of-the-art on critical workloads, including cyber defense, manufacturing and finance and it surpasses closed frontier models on visual grounding. • Forged in Europe end-to-end and is deployable from Europe via our own Mistral Cloud infrastructure. • Available to all via API today. Working with cybersecurity partners privately. Open weights release end of October.

Mistral Large 4 was trained on 4,000 GPUs and Astra was trained on 100,000 of them. We'll see what the kitten can pull off, but the disparity is pretty stark
Frontier scale, built in Europe. Nearly 4,000 NVIDIA Grace Blackwell Superchips powered the training of Mistral Large 4, now in public preview. Congrats to the @MistralAI team 🙌

These grifters will soon have no audience left as the right’s opinion on the EU improves. We will likely see increasingly desperate attempts by these MAGA and Russia-funded puppets to distance themselves from their past or double down. They can stay in the US and Russia.

"Go to Ukraine and help." Many supporting Ukraine's fight for survival have heard that. Though obviously stupid and a last resort answer from pro-Russian lunatics and the unprincipled, it holds a grain of truth: voicing positions and expecting politicians to turn them into policy is easy. But if they don't listen? I'm proud to be part of Ave Europa, where young people put principles above comfort in an era where political apathy and egoism are common. Слава Україні! Ave Europa!
Russia continues its brutal invasion of Ukraine. As a pro-Ukraine movement, Ave Europa will put its money where its mouth is. Russia’s attack on Ukraine is an attack on Europe and our civilisation, so Ave Europa members will soon travel to Ukraine to deliver aid to a Ukrainian military unit, meet our Ukrainian members, and link up with our members fighting in Ukraine’s Armed Forces. We will not be intimidated. Details will follow later this week.

The Sánchez government has turned Spain into the testing ground for a radical socialist migration agenda, with consequences that reach far beyond its national borders. He has failed Spain. He has failed Ceuta. And through his reckless policies, he has created problems for the whole of Europe. The 29 November election is not only about changing Spain’s government. It is about restoring responsibility to one of the European Union’s most important member states.

What a generational fumble from Mistral. The French startup was meant to be the sovereign AI alternative in Europe. Instead, it moved away from building models to applications and infrastructure. It decided to move away just at the time when open source models became good enough and cheap enough to be viable. Now Aleph Alpha has swooped in with a cheap, high-performing, open-source model. The German company has raised about 15% of the cash that Mistral has riased.
Small bird, fast wings, Kolibri is here. 78B parameters. 3.46B active. Up to 1M tokens of context. Built in Europe. Now the weights are yours. Run it on your own hardware, under Apache 2.0.

Here's something most people haven't seen yet. Before Kolibri 1.0 there was Kolibri Origin. Internal only. Same active compute per token. On German, it went from 46 to 71. In three months. That's not luck. It's rigor, discipline, a lot of automation, and a team that really works together. We've built a high-performing machine, and I'm proud of every person in it. Thank you for all the feedback since launch. We read everything, the love and the criticism, and we embrace all of it. It makes us better. Kolibri 1.1 is coming. Faster than you think.
How do you ship a model in under two months? You build the machine that builds the model. Automate everything you can. Measure constantly. Change your mind fast. Stay disciplined. The team wrote it all down here.

Aleph Alpha’s Kolibri looks like a surprisingly strong AI release from Germany! I did not expect that but respect where respect is due! 78B total parameters, just 3.46B active per token, and open weights under Apache 2.0. Built from scratch for German and English. In Aleph Alpha’s own evaluations, it scores 96.9% on AIME 2025 and 84.3% on GPQA Diamond. Its German overall score narrowly beats Qwen3.5 35B-A3B and GPT-OSS 120B. Coding is more mixed: 66.4% on SWE-Bench Verified, behind Qwen3.6’s 73.8%. It increasingly looks as though any "moat" - especially with small models - is evaporating, and it no longer matters whether the players are from China, the US, or Europe. Anyone can train good small models.
