💙 Help Liam Through His Next Battle 💙 Our son Liam is 12 years old and has spent most of his life fighting battles no child should ever have to fight. Liam has brain tumors/optic pathway glioma, NF1, epilepsy, nonverbal autism, an intellectual disability, and is legally blind. He is also a St. Jude patient and is currently undergoing chemotherapy for the THIRD time since he was just 5 years old, with our home hospital Arnold Palmer Hospital for children. Our lives already revolve around oncology appointments, chemotherapy, MRIs under sedation, treatments, hospital stays, specialists, therapies, medications, and making sure Liam has everything he needs to safely navigate a world he experiences very differently. And now we're facing another major hurdle. At Liam's recent orthopedic appointment, we learned that his scoliosis has progressed dramatically. Last year his spinal curve measured 26 degrees. It is now 49 degrees. His doctors have told us that we've reached the point where surgery is necessary. Before surgery can even happen, Liam will need additional testing, including another MRI under sedation, and clearance from his oncology teams at St. Jude and Arnold Palmer. Then we'll begin preparing for surgery and what could be a very challenging recovery. For any child, major spinal surgery is scary. For Liam, there are additional challenges. He doesn't always have the ability to tell us where or how badly he hurts. Changes in routine, unfamiliar environments, and medical procedures can be extremely difficult because of his autism. His epilepsy, cancer, blindness, and the fact that he is currently on chemotherapy also mean that every part of his surgery and recovery will have to be carefully coordinated. We have created this fundraiser to help ease the financial burden that comes with Liam's ongoing cancer treatment, upcoming spinal surgery, and recovery—including hospital expenses, meals, medications, medical supplies, time away from work, and any additional care or equipment Liam may need during his recovery. We don't know exactly what the next several months will look like, but we do know one thing: Liam will never have to face any of this alone. If you're able to donate, no amount is too small.
