Ned Lamont won’t tell you his record on education, so he just lies about mine. Here are the facts after eight years of Lamont: - Connecticut’s black-white achievement gap grew to one of the worst in America - Math scores fell dramatically - Education funding declined (after adjusting for inflation) for seven years - High-demand public charter schools in Bridgeport, Danbury, Middletown and other cities were blocked - Tens of millions in federal scholarship dollars for low-income families were turned away To Ned Lamont, it’s acceptable when Westport succeeds and Bridgeport struggles. Republican nominee for Governor State Sen. Ryan Fazio announced yesterday that he would pledge $2.5 Billion in tax cuts. Fazio says under his plan, which includes cutting 4 of Connecticut’s 7 marginal income tax rates by 2 pts, will save families an average of $2500 per year.

Families and small businesses are paying the price after years of new taxes and tax hikes on meals, online purchases, payroll, and more new fees than you can count. We have a plan to make Connecticut affordable. The governor does not. We’re cutting the lower and middle rates — 2% to 0%, 4.5% to 2.5%, 5.5% to 3.5%, 6% to 5%. We’ll pay for it by cutting waste, reducing pork-barrel spending, creating efficiencies in agencies, cracking down on fraud, and capping government growth at the rate of inflation so we can keep cutting taxes into the future. It starts at the top. An independent review found an “overall failure” in how CSCU handled sexual harassment allegations against its former interim chancellor. Leadership did not report it to Title IX. Board chairs acted outside their own rules. Employees who came forward waited days for basic protections. This is Connecticut’s public college system, funded by the taxpayers. Students and staff deserved a process that actually works for them. Connecticut can do better.

Connecticut has some of the greatest workers and business leaders, but under the Lamont administration it’s become unaffordable for them to operate. After 8 years of Lamont, their costs are higher, it’s harder to hire skilled workers than ever before, and many of the businesses that have been staples in their community - for even 100 years - are closing their doors under this administration. The culture of corruption in Connecticut state government under Lamont reared its ugly head today. The governor’s former deputy budget director fled the country ahead of his sentencing for slew of corruption convictions. We need true zero tolerance of corruption in our state. Today we called on the governor to take four steps to provide immediate relief to electric bills. Families and business owners, like Hector Roldan in New Britain, are struggling to keep up with the cost of energy and are forced to make difficult, costly decisions after 8 years of Lamont. With the right leadership, we’ll start making Connecticut more affordable on day one. And this is how we’ll do it: 1. Refund rising Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative tax revenues to customers, saving tens of millions per year. 2. Stop purchasing and signing any new energy contracts that subsidize private energy companies above the market price for energy, saving tens of millions per year more. 3. Prepare litigation against New York State for blocking expanded access to clean-burning natural gas. 4. Allow all nuclear and hydro energy to count toward the Renewable Portfolio Standard to cut bills by hundreds of millions of dollars per year.
