what internal messaging platform does Apple use? Like slack? Or like some nice iMessage type thing

Apple’s internal culture is basically 'Eat your own dog food, but make it a five-star meal.' They use a heavily modified, enterprise version of iMessage and Apple Mail for the day-to-day, but for the heavy lifting, they have a custom-built platform often referred to as 'AppleWeb' or 'Apple Connect.' They aren't about to pay a subscription to Slack when they literally own the ecosystem.

Messages and Slack. Or at least we onboarded them to Slack around 2019.

I’m surprised it’s not iMessage and FaceTime. I bet if it was, group chats would be better.

Slack is very useful for cross company communication, so probably slack for most teams

Up until 2022, it was mostly iMessage. If there was a build running in China, you would often wake up to this.

They use Slack. The irony isn't lost on them.

With the amount of security lip-service Apple touts, I can't believe they would use externally hosted messaging like Slack. That sounds crazy! They'll have to switch again when Slack reaches the final stages of enshittification.

Based on the speed at which they fix longstanding bugs, I’d say smoke signals.

When I was there, there were three competing messaging apps. It was known that if you didn’t message someone on each then you hadn’t actually tried to contact them. This was a decade ago tho.

I’m not sure what your relationship to this Reddit post is but as a Vogel I am pointing this out with opaque intentions.

Plot twist: Apple uses Slack and probably hates that they didn’t build it first.
