Okay, let's wrap up the strangest viral post I’ve ever made.
1.5M views in 24 hours AND I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT MADE IT TAKE OFF!
Seriously!
Let me tell you the story behind the post. There’s some depth to it on a very personal level.
I hadn't watched Apple keynote since the iPhone 12 I guess. It was so repetitive and boring for me. Plus I couldn't afford any of those new toys.
But this year was different. Not because I could afford anything new, but because the constant rumors of a foldable iPhone had been nudging me for the last couple of months.
So when the time came, 7 PM in my time zone, I started to watch it but almost immediately started zoning out. I shifted my attention away from the pompous yapping and onto all the details I could find.
At the beginning, there was this empty corridor with a glass wall and greenery outside. I looked at the trees, I looked at glass reflections and not having anything else to look at, I started to look at John Ternus' Apple Watch.
I noticed it was something like 10:10 and there was nothing suspicious about that initially. However when they switched to another scene, the time didn't change at all.
The presenter changed. Still the same time.
I completely immersed myself in looking at each person’s wrist to see whether the time changed by even one minute. No. Zero. Since one guy had a digital watch face, I knew it was 10:09.
Then I noticed this time on the iPhones they were showing, and for the entire hour I was wondering why the heck all the devices showed the same time. That drove me crazy, especially when they finally presented iPhone Duo.
Son of a biscuit! 9:41... All devices with 10:09 and then the final one with a completely different time.
But I got focused on the device itself, then started searching for real life YouTube videos and forgot about this time thing.
The next day around noon, I remembered it and thought - let's put Astra to work. Let’s see how many times 10:09 appeared in the keynote.
I knew it was a stupid waste of tokens and time, but I let myself do it. And this is where we go into a deeper level of my being.
My entire life, over 40 years, without even knowing, I always had to do the right things. Smart things. The best things. Perfect things. Everything had to put me in the position of being someone worth something.
Every minute of my life, I was seeking validation. I was seeking proof that I deserved good things. That I deserved a good life. That I deserved to be alive in this world.
I had no idea that what I went through as a kid was abuse, or that my basic needs weren’t being met.
I received a clear message in different forms - you're not good enough. You have to try harder. You have to earn the right to be loved, liked and welcomed. By family and peers.
So I did try hard. Burnout after burnout. Business after business. Project after project. Whenever I got traction, I searched for a message that would tell me I was finally worth something. But it never arrived.
The people who mattered most to me, just like when I was a child, were always focused on pointing out what wasn’t good enough by their standards. Or if they liked something, they passed their fears on to me.
So I even dumped successful projects.
I was trapped in this horrible, never-ending cycle, until I cut them out of my life. And this made space for healing, discovering who I am and growing as a man.
I'm still in this process now, 2 years later, but the last few months have brought the biggest shift. Almost every week brings new lessons, new discoveries. And today is that special day when I discovered that I can be stupid. I can do stupid things.
And this is what I did yesterday. I let myself do a stupid thing. Escaped this prison of thinking I have to use tokens for something valuable and responsible, something that needs to lead to something serious.
I asked damn GPT-6 to count all those silly 10:09s in the video. It made a compilation for me and I just posted it here on X thinking: "Look at me, how stupid I am. I wasted tokens on some nonsense."
I posted it expecting crickets, but
@nickgraynews and
@smitmartijn responded with some comments (thank you guys!!!) and I forgot about it for the next few hours. But when I came back I saw it getting more and more views and likes.
And until now, I had no idea exactly why, but as I was writing this, the answer came to me. It took off to tell me it's good to do silly things in life. Not everything has to be carefully calculated out of fear of making a mistake.
I can be stupid and you can too. It's ok!
That's the story behind this viral post.
I just burned Astra tokens on this lol
I kept spotting 10:09 everywhere during the Apple keynote, so I asked GPT-6 to put together a compilation.
50 shots. All showing 10:09. Then comes the iPhone Duo with 9:41.
Anyone have a clue why?
