From California’s Fifth Climate Change Assessment: “…average snowpack in early April is projected to decline around 40% by mid-century (2041–2070) and 60% by end-of-century (2071–2100) across California” #cawx

The strongest and most widespread offshore wind event in some time will occur in California, creating hazardous fire weather through the rest of the week. Conditions will be the worst Thursday and Friday. Winds should be the strongest in the typical Santa Ana wind corridors in SoCal, with widespread gusts of 35-55 mph and as high as 50-70 mph in the most wind-prone places. In NorCal, winds could gust to 40 mph in exposed spots like the North Bay and the west slope Northern Sierra. Temperatures will be above average, and humidity will be very low everywhere. Recent rains have absolutely had some positive impact on fuel moisture, but it won't be enough in many places to cancel out fire risk. Some areas didn't even get anything from our recent storms. Even then, there are past examples of devastating wildfires occurring following substantial rainfall, so everyone needs to stay vigilant. Public safety power shutoffs are expected in large swaths of both NorCal and SoCal, so make sure you visit PG&E and SCE's websites so you can plan accordingly. Take the necessary precautions so you can quickly evacuate in the event of a wildfire. Stay safe! #CAwx

I do want to be clear: This is NOT a January 2025-like set-up, despite some claims online. Winds are not expected to be nearly as strong, and in most locations vegetation is not nearly as dry. The risk will be locally high/very high, but NOT "extremely critical" as it was then.

You are an idiot #cawx
We are about to get hit with another Eaton Fire wind event and look at the Palisades right now. They let all the brush grow back and it’s all dead and dried out ready to burn again. Oh and both our reservoirs are still offline and we have a broken water main. WTF are we doing.

155 years ago the worst outbreak of fires in US history devastated the Midwest with the cities of Chicago, Peshtigo, Holland and Manistee being totally or partially destroyed. Overall 770-1564 people were killed and >19,536 buildings destroyed. #miwx #wiwx #ilwx

We're now monitoring the #BouquetFire in Los Angeles County S of Bouquet Reservoir. The fire is 15-20 acres, and already has a large plume. Very hot and dry Santa Ana Winds are blowing from the NE. This is not what we wanted to see today

The #DomeFire in Yosemite National Park is very active again this afternoon, with a robust plume and an intense satellite heat signature. The recent perimeter shows that the fire has spotted north up to the southern edge of the Empire Fire scar from 2017. The fire is 1,177 acres with no containment. View the perimeter and other updates on our site, which will be linked below

This is the #DomeFire in Yosemite National Park, which started yesterday morning. The fire was most recently reported as 100 acres at 4 pm yesterday, though it has been growing and intensifying since. It’s been active in a drainage north of Chilnualna Falls above Wawona, with two burn scars from 2017 to the north and east. The conditions this fire is burning in are far from extreme, but it is clearly enough to maintain a fire. View the perimeter and other updates on our site, which will be linked below

It’s 12:30 am, but downslope winds (Sundowner Winds) are causing intense compressional heating along the coast of Santa Barbara County. 98°F at one site right by the beach. This type of weather is actually really fun to observe when there aren’t wildfires ongoing #cawx
