Andrew Neil declares Andy Burnham’s “dithering” on defence spending as “close to a dereliction of duty”. “You wonder how ... John Healey can even look himself in the mirror.” @afneil

We called an ambulance last monday at 4pm, after my 81 year old father-in- law fell and couldn't move. He soiled himself and lay in his own mess overnight for 16 HOURS as the ambulance came at 8.20am, yet we have ambulances available for these spongers.
A convoy of ambulances now arriving for the migrant boat arrival in Gosport, Portsmouth Harbour. That’s on top of the police operations from Hampshire, Kent, Thames Valley and Dorset Police. The cost to the tax payer must be absolutely astronomical

The British state is no longer working in the interests of the British people. We are being forced to pay for policies that demonstrably endanger the public, are creating a national security emergency, and divert billions from declining public services. This simply cannot go on.

A serious country does not gut its own energy security base - shuttering refineries and gas storage facilities, outlawing new North Sea licenses - then import the oil and gas at someone else’s price and on someone else’s terms. It does not trade energy and economic security for a Net Zero target that won’t make a blind bit of difference to the global climate. It does not end up with potential diesel shortages. Britain has done precisely that. It has stopped behaving like a serious country.

Dear Andy, you do know this is untrue, don’t you? Highest energy bills in the world are due to: * Reckless pursuit of net zero * Blowing up our coal-fired power stations * Failing to exploit our own fossil fuels * Insane dependency on foreign oil and gas. The phrase “over a barrel” springs to mind * Paying Norway £20 billion plus a year for oil and gas we could get out of our own North Sea * Subsidizing renewables to the tune of billions by slapping green taxes on bills * Putting an eco-cult and leftist ideology before the comfort and warmth of the British people * Allowing good jobs to be lost in pursuit of all of the above * Claiming your government wants to “reindustrialise” while creating conditions no manufacturer could succeed in * Closing refineries and gas storage so the UK is uniquely vulnerable this winter and likely to have serious power cuts. You’re welcome. @andyburnham
I want to be honest about how we’ve got to a place where British billpayers are paying some of the highest energy costs in Europe. Over the past 40 years, we’ve given up control of our necessities, outsourced our essentials and privatised the basics. Water, transport, housing. And of course, energy. Now the public are paying the price. We haven’t invested in the infrastructure we need. Conflict overseas has pushed up energy costs and it’s hurting our businesses and families. That’s why we need to take back greater control of our energy system. This week, I announced Great British Grid, which will speed up connections and push down bills. We’re also giving mayors, local leaders and communities a stronger role. With funding for People’s Power projects, communities will be able to build solar panels on libraries and town halls, hydro schemes in rivers or publicly owned windfarms on local land. But it’s not just energy we need stronger public control over. It’s also water, housing, transport and care. So we’re repealing the ban on public ownership of water companies. We’re building more council homes than this country has seen since the end of World War Two. We’re reforming the leasehold system so families aren’t squeezed for every penny. And we’re opening up home ownership for first time buyers who can’t rely on the bank of mum and dad. This week I also announced my determination to introduce a National Care Service, to put people above profit and to give pensioners peace of mind. Together, we’ll rewire the country from top to bottom so that it works for all people in all places. That is the only way to put Britain back on the right path. It’s the only way to put power back in people’s hands. And it’s the only way we will bring hope again.

So despite Andy Burnham saying they will not touch the triple lock until 2030 he’s now u-turning & talking of stopping it earlier. These people are happy to keep their extortionate pensions but want pensioners to go without. They are despicable beyond words as the state pension is ridiculously low as it is. Why are Public Sector pensions never ever looked at 🤔

Norway is firing up North Sea oil and gas fields and handing out new licences. The UK government is banning new ones in the same sea - then paying £billions to Norway so they can drill it and import to us instead. The Labour government’s net zero strategy: we don’t extract it, we just import it from the same sea at enormous expense and call it virtue. 🤡

It’s official: Andy Burnham wants to cut your pension. It’s just mean. Why is it always pensioners who are asked to be the first to make sacrifices? We didn’t hear a peep from Burnham on cutting the benefits bill, foreign aid or net zero subsidies. But that’s not all. Burnham said he was being honest but what he didn’t say was there was a gaping black hole in his numbers. Hitting pensioners will only get him 20% of what he needs. He’ll need £17 billion more in taxes. Coincidentally, £17bn is the same amount as levying a 10% death tax on every single person who dies. It’s a double whammy on pensioners. Reform will make different choices. We’ll be on your side instead.
Community note
Andy Burnham pledged to maintain the state pension triple lock unchanged until 2030, after which pensions will rise by at least inflation or 2.5% annually (while holding value relative to earnings over time) to help fund social care - not cut current pensions. itv.com/news/2026-09-2… reuters.com/world/uk/uks-b… bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Andy Burnham appears to have forgotten that period of Labour government in the Seventies when Britain ran out of money and had to crawl to the IMF. Public spending had to be cut drastically. Things are worse now.
