In Europe in 2026, a Jewish survivor of the October 7 atrocities is heckled off stage by people who would rather hear lies about evil Jews than listen to the truth about what happened to her.

For most of the space age, orbit has been a scarce good. Humanity has counted the mass it sends there in thousands of tonnes a year, a thin trickle measured against the planet鈥檚 industrial capacity. Even now, one company accounts for more than four-fifths of that trickle. The number is large only because the baseline is so small. Starship is built on a different premise. It is not an improvement on the expendable rocket so much as a refusal of its logic. Launch, return, catch, refuel, and fly again: the vehicle is meant to treat the boundary between Earth and orbit as a route rather than a threshold. The ambition is airline-like cadence applied to something that has never been routine. Within a few years, the stated aim is a flight every hour. If that rhythm holds, the unit of measurement itself changes. What was once tallied in thousands of tonnes begins to be counted in millions. Mass to orbit stops being a rare achievement and becomes a flow. The heavens, long approached as a distant destination, start to look like an extension of the industrial world accessible, refillable, and subject to the same compounding logic that turned flight from spectacle into infrastructure. The scale is not merely larger. It is the point at which quantity alters kind: when the cost of leaving the planet falls far enough that the question is no longer whether we can go, but what we choose to do with the capacity once the constraint is lifted.
