How Aztec Keeps Execution Private While Settling on Ethereum L1. Aztec transactions don’t work like regular Ethereum ones, they’re designed for privacy from the ground up. The key piece that makes private execution possible while still settling on Ethereum L1 is something called PXE, short for Private Execution Environment. Think of PXE as a little private engine that lives inside your wallet or Aztec app. It’s not a separate device, it’s just software running locally on your system. How PXE Gets on Your Device When you use an Aztec-compatible wallet or dApp (built with the Aztec SDK), there’s already a PXE module built in. That module quietly handles the private magic behind the scenes: Encrypting and decrypting your private data Generating zero-knowledge proofs on your device Talking securely with Aztec’s sequencers So the PXE basically lives inside your wallet, just like how MetaMask runs Ethereum code locally, PXE runs Aztec’s private logic locally. From Private Execution → Public Settlement Here’s the flow: 1. Private side (User + PXE) Your wallet and PXE prep and encrypt the transaction locally. All the logic, inputs, and outputs are processed privately, nothing leaves your device in plain text. 2. Sequencer/Prover network Your encrypted transaction and proof go to Aztec’s sequencers.
