TL;DR: If the workload can be handled well by Opus 4.6, it has a substantial cost advantage. Fable 5.1 needs to produce meaningfully better results, require fewer retries/agent steps, or make heavy use of cached context to justify its 100% premium on input and output tokens.

You are so correct here! I've actually managed to do a bunch of good in this flow that ends up with an output to create an attestation as follows and it's working well

I've spent the last two months talking about building the machine that builds the machine. The idea isn't complicated: stop treating AI as a better interface for humans to do work, and start building systems that can create, modify, operate, and improve other systems. For infrastructure, that means the goal isn't an AI that writes Terraform faster. It's a system that can understand infrastructure, reason about it, change it safely, and get better at doing that every time it runs. Last week at Microsoft Build, @steipete gave a talk called "Build the Thing That Builds the Thing." - lnkd.in/eGPE3VUZ That title stood out because it describes exactly how I think about AI. Most people spend their time prompting agents. I spend my time building the systems around the agents. The goal isn't to become better at prompting. The goal is to build a machine that can reliably produce outcomes, improve itself, and do more of the work without requiring constant human intervention. We're not heading toward a world where humans sit in front of chat windows all day. We're heading toward a world where we build machines that build machines. The biggest opportunity isn't replacing individual tasks. It's creating systems that continuously generate, operate, and improve the next layer of systems above them. That's what I've been writing about throughout this blog series (stack72.dev/the-lifecycle-of…), and it's what we've been building at swamp-club.com for months already. It feels like the industry is finally converging on the same idea and I am excited about it!

At @thesysteminit, we've been fine tuning the observability story for our distributed system to allow us to understand what is happening internally - we finally hit that key point yesterday of being able to trace across the service boundaries and across systems interacting with NATS. At any point, we can turn the tracing level up and get details data that look like this. This level of understanding is so key to being able to tune the system!

This week @thesysteminit, I've been working on some complex scenarios for asset modelling. Today's adventure is modelling an AWS SSO org. It's often difficult to be able to understand the relationships between the users and the groups they have access to. System Initiative makes that way more expressive. We add a group and a user to the canvas and then we add a membership inside each of the users. It means you can look at a user and see what groups they have access to This allows us to be able to easily add / remove group access - we can even give the ability for a user to be able to do that themselves while they are working on an incident. The audit trail that goes with it makes it very powerful showing when someone got access to what!

Ok, so now we have @awscloud Lambda function support (functions, permission, aliases, VPC integration and Invoke URLs) in @thesysteminit

Our VP of Engineering at @thesysteminit sat down to let her 8 year old child use System Initiative last night.... the 8 year old built out a partial @awscloud VPC! We set out to make a tool that the barrier to get started was low - I think we may be on the right path...

So one of @thesysteminit community members needed IPV6 support for our @awscloud VPC asset. I timed myself to see how fast I could add support for it to the asset and apply that change to get an IPV6 address. 2 minutes 8 seconds! You can imagine when Re:invent happens how fast I can get some of the product changes out!! :) The 1:1 mapping to the upstream API makes this really nice and straight forward

Been modelling how to create a highly available application architecture made up of secure a network, public ALB, autoscaling groups and launch templates. It was quite straightforward to build and felt very composible! I was able to create the model AND the infrastructure at the same time. I could even make this in small steps All the orange frames are the networking stack, the white frame is the application artifacts (autoscaling group, instance profile, launch template) and the yellow frame is the load balancer, the listener and the target group! There's going to be so much more of this coming as examples of how to use @thesysteminit . If you want to see more, get in contact with me and I can take you on a tour of it!

So on a @lufthansa flight that made me arrive at a destination 5 hours late they tell me I’m not entitled to compensation… I guess it was my fault for them failing to get me to my destination on time right?

I’ve seen more and more people take advantage of sketch notes and I think they look like a great way to keep information. So I’m going to try and learn how to do it

My amazing colleagues at @thesysteminit got my baby a customised SI baby sleep suit :) can’t wait till he’s on calls wearing it!

Had 30 minutes while the baby was napping so I decided to try and add a simple test for @Scaleway support to @thesysteminit - it was quite straightforward to get the system to manage scaleway projects using the API :)

Well that sucks :/ living in this place continues to frustrate me when it comes to deliveries!

So I've been on paternity leave this week - I just tried @thesysteminit for the first time in our production workspace and it feels great! it's fast and feels awesome to model in! I just built and modelled an AWS EKS cluster in a number of minutes!

We (@thesysteminit) just added the ability for a user to be able to defer when actions happen. Previously, we would have made a user delete the action and then open a new changeset to re-enqueue the action. We have added the ability to put an action "on-hold"

We've been working hard to deploy our production version of @thesysteminit after we rewrote the new engine - we hit a major milestone today and have deployed our infra with our own product on our new engine!! It feels great :) [when not zoomed out!] it's noce to see the model

I always knew I was going to be rich… thank you random kind stranger who emailed me
