DeFi protocols face this weird problem when trying to bootstrap
- Bootstrapping requires big capital and volume, sizes that only whales/institutional players have
- These players don't care about your product and will dump your points (or eventual token) the moment they find a market
- Users that believe in you don't have the size to get the points they need
The issue here is that the points are illiquid. So, before TGE the users cannot sell them them and after TGE, the "big stakeholders" dump all their allocation. Price collapses and retail is no longer interested in holding a free fall token.
This is one of the burning pain points we identified at ArcX early this year. The entire industry is trying to solve for "pre IPO perps" but no one wants to talk about "pre TGE markets" (aka point markets).
At ArcX, we connect all the three parties - protocol, whales and retail users efficiently and allow open markets do their thing.
- Protocols get the bootstrapping liquidity they need, in exchange for points
- Whales/Instis get to sell their points to the highest bidder
- Retail that believes in the protocol gets early exposure without requiring large size
We've already done an experiment with @extendedapp in private beta where we converted $6-7k of point buying pressure to $550k TVL and $20-25mn volume in just a month.
We've some very interesting protocols lined up for launch at ArcX in the coming few weeks. Stay tuned. And if you're a protocol with a running points program or are planning to launch one, feel free to DM!
