for an RPG this does seem low but i think fable 1 and 2 were even shorter
‘Fable’ will take 20 hours to complete ⚔️ Almost double that with all side quests and activities (via @polygon)

I think it works well. 15-20 for main. 15-20 for side. And then 20+ for the life simulation systems in the game. 40+ hours is perfect for fable imo

Hot take but this is actually great. I miss shorter games, this could easily be a good snack-size little cozy game, and a New Game + will be worth the yearly replay

Most of my favorite games are in that 40hr range. Mass Effect trilogy, Souls Trilogy, Bloodborne, Expedition 33 etc. If it's 40hrs of actual content + whatever time I spend ruining everyone in Albion's lives, I'm cool.

But the fact that it took as long as it did and how much they spent on it even going way over budget allegedly, has me concerned, the combat didn’t look the best but I overlooked it because I thought maybe there’s lots of exploration, but now this news doesn’t sound good

Yeah Fable 1's main story was a good 16-20 hours, and Fable 2 and 3 were a lot shorter. I have a feeling I'll probably hit around the 50 hour mark by the time I'm done knowing how deep I'm gonna get into the side quests and extra activities 😂

Resident Evil 2 Remake (~9 hours) Resident Evil Village (~10 hours) Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (~8 hours) Astro Bot (~11 hours) Devil May Cry 5 (~11 hours) Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (~11 hours) Control (~12 hours) The Last of Us Part I (~14.5 hours) Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (~15 hours) Resident Evil 4 Remake (~16 hours) Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018, ~17 hours) Alan Wake 2 (~19 hours) Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (~16 hours) Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 (15–18 hours) it's normal most game main storys are not 40 hours plus

Not too bad. With side quests I believe it goes up to 40 hours? Better that then empty filler open world slop, no?

The last fable game came out in 2010 and the main story quest took 13.5-18hours. So 16 year gap and I get another 4-6 hours of gameplay for 70$?!? I was so excited for fable but very disappointed in playtime hours in this generation. Not even a full 24hrs. It’s sad.

People play Fable multiple times due to dialogue choices, 40 hours could easily turn into 120 hours

I'm totally happy with 20hrs, I'm so tired of 100hr+ games that get boring after 50hrs because the gameplay doesn't get any better or different.

With the amount of shit they've been trying to hype up that you would think would make it a huge game, that is VERY short

Fable 1 without the later additional content, you can play for one session and be halfway through the story and not know it. Characters who feel like they'd have their own side stories show up once, then disappear forever. This sounds fine to me, not counting side content.

another outlet said they had an interview with a dev who quoted 40-50, with 20 just being the main story. dont trust these news pages, they all just copy each other with no sources and regurgitate it for clicks.

Because most of Fable gameplay is just fucking around and buying houses

You’d hope this is padded out by side quests and then the fact that there’s a lot to do in terms of activities that pad out your runtime. Maybe I’m being charitable but perhaps they want people to spend time in the world, doing jobs, exploring etc. Hopefully 🤞🏻

Seems fine to me. Not every RPG needs to be over 100 hours.

It's great for replayability. I'm probably only doing 1-2 in depth playthrough where I deeply invest in my character, choices, quests and side quests and the rest will be experimenting with different choices and mainlining the game.

Fable 1 we like 10 hours. I remember that being a big criticism of the game

The last fable game was released during the first Obama administration. This is ridiculously low by modern standards

I'm ok with that completion time, I'm sure it'll take longer between one thing and another - I'm less ok with the price now.

When you spend (at minimum) 4x the amount of money adjusted for inflation and take 5 years longer to make a sequel I expect the game to be a lot longer then previous entries

I’m just hoping the quality is there as long as the playtime is lower than the usual RPG

We live in a time where it's taking a decade to develop a game where the selling feature is that you can be a landlord and have a wife.

I think because the game has been in development for such a long time and was rumoured for longer that players expected more, if it was 30 hours for the main story I dont think we'd be having this discussion.

In RPG side content and replayability matters. Also, I'll take a shorter good story than whatever Crimson Desert's story was.

Fable 3 was only 13 hours. Oblivion was only 17 hours. If the game is really immeresive you will not care.

Fable 1 and 2 also has cool morality based changes for my character….And decently bangable NPC’s….And a whimsical asthetic and style.🤔

If you just ignored most enemies, the first game was like 2 hours of actual main story content.
