2 Election Commissioners wrote to Cabinet Secretary. RTI reveals what happened next On July 29, two of India’s three Election Commissioners did something unusual. They didn’t write to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. They wrote to the Cabinet Secretary. A Right to Information (RTI) reply obtained exclusively by India Today reveals what happened to those letters inside Seva Teerth, the complex that houses the Prime Minister’s Office, the National Security Council Secretariat and the Cabinet Secretariat. #WATCH | Delhi | On Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut's tweet regarding unrest in Albania, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi says, "India does not need to learn from any other country... Albania is a small nation that endured years under a communist dictatorship; the idea that people should take the law into their own hands, disrupt order, and destabilize institutions, whether it be the Supreme Court or the Parliament, is entirely unacceptable... those who suggest that we should draw inspiration from the protests in Bangladesh to pursue a regime change: this is deeply regrettable, as those protests were not merely led by students; they were eventually co-opted by an Islamist movement, which led to attacks on minorities, including Hindu minorities. Such violent regime change has no place in any democracy, and we should not look to examples like Albania, Paris, or other such instances for guidance..."

I’ve long wondered about this practice: how is it ok, in today’s age, to have a ‘pseudonym’ columnist? I’d understand for whistleblower; personal story of risk. But for a regular “analysis”column that can fire away anything on India’s most divisive issue without accountability?
1/5 Sharjeel Imam has given an interview detailing his Islamist manifesto. Surprisingly, no storm has been kicked up over pronouncements that are so unapologetically anti-liberal, anti-secular, anti-democracy, anti-Constitution—in a word, anti-national. 2/5 He openly calls the Constitution fascist, labels secularism a trap, and denounces democracy as a contrivance to deny Muslims their political rights. 3/5 The piece is a litany of indictments against the liberal class. Imam rejects any difference between liberals and Hindutvadis. In his essentialist worldview, all Hindus are the same, unanimous in denying Muslims political power they claim as a divine right. 4/5 Inadvertently, Sharjeel has recognised something that liberals have been fighting shy of acknowledging: that Hindutva’s idea of India is anchored in the same “overarching nationalist framework”— that Muslims are Indians above all else. 5/5 For more, read this Opinion article by Ibn Khaldun Bharati, who looks at Islam from an Indian perspective: Sharjeel Imam’s Islamist manifesto will be forgotten. The silence of liberals will not theprint.in/opinion/sharjeel…

I met Saurav and Ashu before leaving, and they are stronger than we think. This is how the State tries to crush young people, but it should know that it will not break their spirit. Keeping them in jail for unfurling the national flag? If this isn’t an undeclared Emergency, then what is? Repression will not break their spirit.

People can have differences and nuanced takes on CJP but it is inexcusable to remain silent on the custody of Ashutosh and Saurav. This is an egregious violation of a citizen's liberty. Please speak up. If not on principle, than in self-interest, for this is setting a precedent.

#StoryAlert: In 2025, women donated 8,835 of India’s 12,491 living-donor kidneys. They received just 2,835. That is 3.1 women donors for every woman recipient. The gap raises questions about who gives, who receives and why. (1/6) 🧵

The numbers reveal the disparity, not the whole story. NOTTO data do not show who was assessed or listed for a transplant, or whether donors felt pressured. Better data on kidney disease, referrals and access to treatment are needed. (5/6)
