🧵Israel's pager attack in Lebanon was a critical moment in my understanding of the society in which I used to live. While Israel was carrying out what might have been the largest-scale terrorist attack of all time, and Lebanese children, men, and women were being maimed and murdered in droves, Israeli "leftists" across social media, including many supposedly "radical" and even self-proclaimed "anti-Zionist" ones, were overjoyed at the carnage, sharing memes and jokes and mocking the victims.
That day, it became crystal clear to me how even most "conscientious" Israelis are completely unable to see their non-Jewish victims as actual human beings. It was and still is truly sickening to witness.
