In 2005 I was 15, basically played WoW for 16 hours a day.
Gnome Mage, pink pigtails and all.
I managed to get into the top guild of my server called Midget Mafia.
I lied and said I was 18, because that was the minimum age to join the guild, Daxx the guild leader liked me.
After several raids I was the top mage DPS. Then Onyxia was released, and we were hellebnt to be one of the first guilds to kill onyxia.
I started working with the mages in the guild on what enchants, potions, macros to use, and how to execute on it.
The Daxx asked me if I want to be the guilds mage officer. I had to come clean and say I’m 15. He said it’s ok.
And around mid 2005 we were the ~40th guild to kill onyxia.
The first European guild.
A kid who knows how to raid in WoW is unironically a better hire than 99% of non gamers. They develop team skills, coordination, leadership, how to master the respect of 40 people, how to share loot, maintaining a raid schedule, showing up on time, clear direct communication, how to get along with unique personalities, creating and executing on strategies, failing and trying again (perseverance), delayed gratification, etc. Invaluable skills are developed during raiding that are transferrable to the real world.
