The govt deliberately hid tests it commissioned pre #Grenfell that showed #cladding was dangerous & flammable. The govt then engaged in deceit & cover-up post Grenfell. It is now time for the govt to pay a hefty compensation to ALL its victims of the #BuildingSafetyCrisis.
The chain of cover-ups that led to Grenfell - UnHerd. ⁦@PeteApps⁩ whose book is excellent. Points out here the attempts by government POST Grenfell to claim the cladding on the building had been ‘banned’. Proven not true by the ban later announced unherd.com/newsroom/the-chai…

Rather than creating a free market for managing agents by ending leasehold & giving flat owners power to hire and fire managing agents You can now write a strongly worded email to a managing agent regulator, who like all other housing regulators, will probably do nothing to help
WE DID IT! 🙌 In July 2025, I introduced my Bill calling for a regulator for managing agents. Today, the Government has committed to introducing one. Managing agents found ripping off leaseholders will face losing their licences. A huge win for leaseholders.

Afraid to say we’re still among the 854 buildings where remediation hasn’t started, and there’s still no plan in place. @AngelaRayner

❌ Meanwhile, 854 buildings have not started remediation and still have no plan. Nor is there clarity on the buildings developers claim do not require work.

Our remediation in Swansea by Persimmon was due to start November 2025. It's now Spring 2027 but nothing in writing. We're waiting for alarm upgrades and have 24/7 Waking Watch costing 230 leaseholders £110.000 a month. Life is miserable. None of this is our fault.

The message is clear: building more homes has been prioritised over making existing homes safe. Despite the missed targets, self-reported data and years of delay, there is still no meaningful change in @mhclg's approach. Warm words. Weak oversight. Unsafe homes.

Have the underlying assessments all been independently audited? How many decisions were overturned? Will residents see the evidence? Or will @UKLabour ministers continue to let the developers mark their own homework?

MHCLG’s dashboard shows which developers missed the 80% target – and by how much. But there is still no clarity on what consequences they will face.

Government’s latest developer data confirms an abject failure. Developers promised to start or complete work on 80% of their buildings by July 2026. Their (self-reported) data shows just 53% have started or completed – and only 23% are complete. 🧵

The cladding and building safety scandal ruined my life for 8 years. Its impacts will never leave me. But I’m one of the lucky ones. So many people are still living with this nightmare. How are we still failing this many people? It’s an absolute disgrace.

It’s a shame the charlatans that built & killed people weren’t put in prison and their assets regardless of where they were were ceased and used to put things right

It seems buying a flat is like buying a liability these days, especially after Grenfell with a shortage of inspectors and insurance companies demanding human monitors constantly manning the building until the building is certified safe. The other big issue that seems to be wrong is if you buy a flat via right to buy, you will be liable for any costs when the Council upgrades windows etc on Council owned properties. So if they are charged £30K to replace windows for each Council flat, you have to pay £30K. You’re not allowed to get in your own supplier. The rules are mad!

Flat out. “Many banks won’t lend money on a property if the service charge is more than 1 per cent of the purchase price, which has made some flats unsellable. @Hamptons1869 estimated this month that 37 per cent of flats in England and Wales — almost 2 million — have a service charge that could stop buyers getting a mortgage.” The government are focused on building more, not the welfare of those who went before and are now paying the price. @JSimpsonjourno @thetimes thetimes.com/article/e3f28f0…

Have you forgotten what happened to many people who bought their first flat using Help to Buy? Unsafe homes. Years trapped. Lives put on hold. Remediation battles. Government "protections" leaving leaseholders exposed to costs. Developers arguing what they will fix. Remember?
