He was playing phenomenal tennis and was right there with Nadal at 7–6, 6–6 when the injury happened. That heartbreaking moment delayed what I always felt was coming. Four years later, Zverev finally broke through — winning the 2026 Australian Open and then following it up by winning the 2026 US Open. 🏆🏆🇩🇪 From that terrible injury in Paris to becoming a two-time Grand Slam champion in the same year — what a journey! Better late than never. Zverev's talent, resilience and perseverance have finally been rewarded. What a champion! 👏🔥🎾

With so much hateful rhetoric and behavior in American politics right now, it is heartening to see two competitors embrace after a match and treat each other with deep respect. Shelton’s comments after the match were also refreshingly gracious. And Zverev’s comments about his mother were extremely moving.
