As both a gaming creator and head of community, I’ve seen what happens when hating a game/console becomes someone’s entire identity.
- Every announcement becomes ammunition.
- Unrelated posts become personal attacks.
- Facts that challenge their narrative get ignored.
- Players having fun get dismissed as shills.
- Anyone who corrects them becomes an enemy.
They always hide behind the “we’re fighting for the community” flag, while turning on anyone in that community who isn’t angry enough.
When your enjoyment becomes something they need to discredit, they’re no longer defending your experience. They’re demanding that it match theirs.
It’s become so personal that having a good time would mean admitting they might be wrong.
And that’s a shame.
