Our institutions of higher education should protect their activists, but they should also prioritize recruiting scholars. The ideal student should think more like a field anthropologist, someone who is trying to figure out where the other side is coming from, rather than a strident warrior in a battle of good versus evil. That open, curious, intellectually humble, and receptive mindset is the foundation of actual learning, and is critical to fostering an educational environment that lives up to its intended purpose. thedispatch.com/article/how-…

STATEMENT BY PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH ON THE 2024 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION: CRAWFORD, TEXAS — I congratulate President Trump on his election as 47th President of the United States of America, as well as Vice President-elect J.D. Vance and their families. I also thank President Biden and Vice President Harris for their service to our country. The strong turnout in this election is a sign of the health of our republic and the strength of our democratic institutions. Laura and I are grateful to the election officials, poll workers, and volunteers who oversaw a free, fair, safe, and secure election. We join our fellow citizens in praying for the success of our new leaders at all levels of government. May God continue to bless our great country. #     #     #

The @EdWorkforceCmte’s report on antisemitism clearly shows the moral bankruptcy of university leaders to take decisive action against incidents of antisemitism on their campuses and even confirms personal attacks against me for pursuing their accountability. abcnews.go.com/Politics/coll…

If present trends continue, this Trump victory will swamp all the micro-explanations. Shapiro as VP wouldn't have changed this. Keeping Arab-Americans in Michigan wouldn't have changed this. It's all the big stuff -- defeat in Afghanistan, a porous border, inflation, and (yes, this really matters) Biden's refusal to acknowledge reality and step aside in time for Democrats to have a real primary.

As I wrote last week, now is not the time to be writing eulogies for American democracy. Last night was not the end of a story. The most dangerous thing you can do if you're scared about what comes next is to give up and disengage from civic life. theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv…
