Excited to share our new work, "Developmental deviations of association-network structural connectivity in youths with ADHD predict symptom and treatment outcomes", now out in Nat. Biomed. Eng. @natBME: nature.com/articles/s41551-0…! Congrats to @chocoxu0925 & Zhao.
Excited to share our latest @natBME paper!🥳How does structural connectivity (SC) in ADHD deviate from typical development? We show delayed maturation of association-network SC, with some deviations declining with age, tracking symptoms, and predicting treatment response.

Excited that this paper, "Highly replicable multisite patterns of adolescent white matter maturation", has now been published in Neuron! It may be found at cell.com/neuron/fulltext/S08…. To freely access the paper for the next 50 days, please use this link: authors.elsevier.com/c/1nxdd…
Diffusion MRI (dMRI) is a powerful tool to study white matter maturation. In our new preprint, we process and distribute a new resource of >24,000 ABCD dMRI scans using open source tools! We then evaluate how methods shape inferences about development. 🔗 bit.ly/3QMLG0K

Are there dynamics that can be generated stably in only one direction of time? Five years ago, my attempts to generate reversed Lorenz dynamics with a reservoir computer kept failing. Five years later, that question has led to a theorem. arxiv.org/abs/2610.02845

Excited to share our new work now out in Nature Neuroscience!! We use a whole-brain framework to show that aging and Alzhiemer's disease affect the brain's functional organization along completely separate axes. Paper and thread below 👇
The first paper from my PhD is out in @NatureNeuro! Aging and Alzheimer's disease both reshape how the brain communicates. But not in the same way: aging vs AD related alterations follow two distinct axes of brain organization Paper → nature.com/articles/s41593-0… 🧵⬇️

Why do neural networks become modular? Our paper is now out in Nature Machine Intelligence! @NaturePortfolio We show that multi-task learning promotes modularity under limited capacity and task demands help explain features of brain architecture in addition to the spatial constraints. Great thanks to all the co-authors. @WHYWYH007 @yifannnwu @DaniSBassett @marcelomattar rdcu.be/YJ12NBxvrHsa

3 years ago, we reported pronounced poor body health in mental illness. Is it just a side effect of treatment? Our new study @molpsychiatry shows that dysfunction in multiple body systems is already present in first-episode, drug-naïve patients. nature.com/articles/s41380-0… 1/6🧵
Mental illness is a brain disorder? Right? We thought so. Hang on though, our new study @JAMAPsych shows that poor body health is a more pronounced manifestation of mental illness than poor brain health. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam… 🧵1/9

First study out! Using a new cooperative paradigm and multi-agent inverse RL, we show that mice spontaneously adopt leader/follower roles, and the prefrontal cortex encodes these role dynamics and an egocentric social value map of the partner’s position. nature.com/articles/s41586-0…

check out this incredible new work by the amazing @MJaskir, integrating information across many different dMRI measures to look at brain organization across the lifespan + variation in epilepsy.
Diffusion MRI (dMRI) is sensitive to the brain's microstructure, but a myriad of dMRI measures exist. Can their similarities be captured concisely by a few factors? How are these factors organized in the brain? How are they altered in focal epilepsy? A 🧵 biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…

Honored to be named the runner-up for the Science & PINS Prize for Neuromodulation, with my essay now published by @ScienceMagazine. science.org/doi/10.1126/scie… The essay lays out how mapping the brain's functional circuits lets us move brain stim. from deep toward the brain surface.

Our latest out now in @NatureNeuro led by @TrangCao2016 looking at the reproducibility of MRI morphometry phenotypes in psychiatric disorders. We quantify the reproducibility of grey matter volume and cortical thickness differences in Schizophrenia, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Autism, and Alzheimer's Disease. AD findings are reproducible; results for the other disorders are not. Bootstrapping suggests increased sample sizes can help for schizophrenia, but very large (i.e, N>1k) samples may be needed for other disorders. Our findings are consistent with a low SNR disease phenotype. Peep the thread and link for more details!
