Political parties, civil society organisations, government institutions, and diplomatic missions are among those expected to observe
#Rwanda’s upcoming local government elections.
• National Electoral Commission (NEC) Chairperson Oda Gasinzigwa said applications from prospective election observers will open on October 1.
• The elections will be held between October and November 2026, with voting starting at village level before progressing to cell, sector and district levels.
• Political parties will have representatives among election observers, but candidates in the local government elections will contest as individuals rather than on party tickets.
• Approximately 70,000 electoral volunteers will be needed to facilitate the elections, according to NEC.
• Village-level elections are scheduled for October 24, followed by cell-level elections on October 31 and sector-level elections on November 7.
• Elections for District Council members and executive committees will take place in November, with the electoral process concluding on November 30 with elections for members of the executive committees of the National Councils.
