As a dad of a college student, this is personal to me. Parents need to understand how serious this is and talk to their kids now, because one mistake, one exposure, can be fatal. These drugs are poison, plain and simple. As we have seen, our colleges and universities are a soft target for these drugs. I encourage students on campus to practice common sense and refrain from taking anything that is not prescribed to you or purchased directly from a retail pharmacy.

Honored to be with Medal of Honor Recipient Thomas Payne and other friends tonight. Sergeant Major Payne was awarded this honor for his extraordinary heroism leading a hostage rescue raid in Iraq in 2015. Despite heavy gunfire and burning buildings, his team freed 75 hostages. When orders were called to evacuate the building, he went back inside and rescued more people in need of help. He’s a true hero. Meeting Sergeant Major Payne was a good reminder: regardless of how tough times get, we live in the best country in the world, protected by the bravest among us. Let’s keep working to ensure we honor their bravery and sacrifice.
