Since Speaker Johnson sent us home last week, a lot of people have asked me the same thing: If a majority of Congress wants to vote, why can't we just show up and vote?    It's a fair question, and the answer tells you how much power one person holds over the people's House.   The fact that the Speaker can shut it all down should bother you. The House is supposed to answer to the people of this country, and knowing a vote isn’t going to go the way you want is no reason to send everybody home.

I believe the internet, Fox News, and the COVID lockdowns transitioned many already disillusioned (and often bigoted) Americans into irrational, hate filled, spiteful, and selfish people. The irrational part of it alone explains a lot.

A U.N. commission, for the first time in 70 years, passed a resolution calling for women and girls’ rights and justice and gender equality, 37 to 1. The lone dissenting nation was Donald Trump’s delegation from the United States. He’s against female equality. A new low for Trump. I urge you to remember this in November.
