I’m not sure if this could be him, but on Friday afternoon at around 15:30, I drove past an accident on the N1 South, just before Midrand. I saw a pedestrian lying in the road. I’ve been searching for reports about the accident, but I haven’t found any mention of a pedestrian

The body of 22-year-old University of Limpopo medical student Petra Tsebe was discovered along Sovenga Street near the university’s campus in Mankweng.
Police found Petra partially clothed, with her head positioned inside a trench. Her bag, containing her ID and NSFAS card, was found nearby, raising questions about what really happened
However, students, particularly young women, say the incident has left them worried about their safety. Meanwhile, the police continue investigating the circumstances surrounding Petra’s death.

[ALLEGED ‘SEXTORTIONIST’ RETURNS TO COURT]
The formal bail application of a 30 year-old Soweto resident, Ifeel Simango, who is facing charges of extortion and money laundering, continues today, 06 August 2026, in the Protea Glen Magistrate’s Court.
He was arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, in Orlando West, following an extensive investigation into a highly sophisticated international online extortion, sextortion and money laundering syndicate. He made his first court appearance on 30 July 2026, where the matter was postponed and he was remanded in custody pending the formal bail application.
The investigation stems from the tragic death of a minor male victim who was manipulated into sending explicit images of himself via WhatsApp to an individual using a fraudulent online profile. Immediately after receiving the images, the perpetrator allegedly demanded large sums of money from the victim, threatening to distribute the explicit content on social media if payment was not made.
Despite the victim transferring a total of R232,919.38 into a PayPal account allegedly linked to the accused, the suspect allegedly ignored the victim’s distress and explicit expressions of suicidal ideation and proceeded to publish the compromising images on Instagram. The victim subsequently died by suicide, leaving behind a note detailing the ordeal.
The investigation further revealed that the extorted funds were transferred from the accused’s PayPal account into multiple domestic bank accounts.
An extensive forensic digital investigation has since uncovered the international scope of the operation. To date, investigators have identified 52 additional victims worldwide, including two South African victims who are believed to have been targeted by the same syndicate.

Chaotic traffic conditions are currently being experienced along the R101 between Polokwane, Mokopane and Mookgophong as motorists head southbound towards Gauteng following the Heritage Day long weekend.
Traffic congestion has intensified along the route, with some motorists driving on the incoming-traffic lane to bypass the queues, creating a serious safety risk for other road users.
Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution, remain patient and avoid driving on the incoming lane or making dangerous overtaking manoeuvres.
Drivers travelling towards Gauteng should expect significant delays along the R101.
