Winston Churchill and Volodymyr Zelensky should never be mentioned in the same breath. Churchill led Britain through its darkest hour and helped save our country. Zelensky, meanwhile, continues to demand billions from British taxpayers. Comparing the two is an insult to Churchill's legacy.
The honour was mine, Mr President. As I told you when we first met in Kyiv four months into the war, you’re a modern-day Churchill fighting for freedom and democracy against an evil dictator. The free world must help you win. 👊👊
Community note
Churchill asked for aid from the entire commonwealth and got Roosevelt to approve the lendlease act to aid the UK. stgeorgeswoolwich.org/garden/contrib… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lend-Lease

Please explain how criticising Zelensky, correlates to supporting Putin? I'm not pro Russia, or pro Ukraine. I just don't think we should be sending taxpayer funds to these corrupt politicians.

Cat check: Churchill sent a 15 page letter to US President Franklin D Roosevelt in December 1940 requesting financial aid. The US ultimately responded with the Lend Lease act which supplied $690 billion of aid to Europe in today's money. history.state.gov/historical…

What a disgusting post. Ukraine is fighting a major invasion on a 500 mile front. The largest invasion in Europe since WW2. Putin is intent to wipe Ukraine off the face of the earth, it's people's sent to concentration camps like the Crimean tartars before. Imagining cruelty. Indeed like Russia/Germany did to Poland in 1939. While you lap up Russian Disinformation about Zelensky on a daily basis. Zelensky is today's Churchill, fighting a ruthless tyrant who is firing countless thousands of drones and missiles aimed at population centres.

A moronic statement! Both men led their nations during the worst times of a huge threat to their nations. Both men stood alone to save Europe from its existential threat. Both men needed to beg favours and equipment to endure their country prevailed. Both men were democrats who were plunged into an appalling situation which necessitated postponing elections. Both men will rightly be remembered by future generations for their stoicism and heroism! Churchill and Zelenskyy are very very similar in strength and character.

Ok. That’s the stupidest thing I have ever read in context of Zelenskyy and Churchill comparisons🤦🏻‍♂️Churchill not only demanded weapons from the U.S., he wanted them to enter the war against Hitler. And also, if we are comparing both of them, with all due respect to Churchill, German troops have never been 20 km from the Downing Street. As a Brit, but especially as a biritsh politician you should be ashamed of not knowing such basic historical facts.

He is doing and has done exactly what a great leader does when their country is being attacked by a brutal dictator. If your country was being devoured by a superpower, what would you want your leader to do? Negotiation with Putin means surrender and death.

Cannot agree. Zelenskyy has been a truly impressive leader throughout. Faced with overwhelming odds and an offer to be evacuated with his family, he stayed. And he remains to this day - a constant target. I wonder how many other world leaders would have stayed put in those early hours of the invasion.

"Only Finland—superb, nay, sublime—in the jaws of peril—Finland shows what free men can do." Jan 20, 1940. Churchill said this in support of Finland's fight to preserve it's freedom from Soviet invasion. I have no doubt that he'd say the same in support of Ukraine.

Churchill asked Britain to stand up to a dictator. Zelensky is doing the same. The difference? Churchill had an empire behind him; Zelensky is asking others to help his country survive. If Churchill were alive today, he’d recognize the threat posed by Putin. The real insult to Churchill’s legacy is confusing the cost of resisting aggression with a reason to tolerate it.

Actually, the comparison is near perfect and, if anything, the edge goes to Zelenskyy. His country was invaded by air AND land by a far superior force and Zelenskyy was given the option to run but chose not to. As for demands, are you forgetting what Churchill "demanded" from America and how difficult is was for FDR to find a way to give your country what it needed?

That's a very historically inaccurate statement. Do you even know your own history or are you just ignoring it to make cheap shots at Zelensky. ...oh, wait, Reform Party, now it makes sense. You have to appease your Kremlin paymasters.

Ooooohhh, you got a community note! Two different wars and two different scales, but Zelenskyy is leading Ukraine during its darkest hour just as Churchill led the UK through its darkest hour. Resilience. Leadership. Two different leaders and circumstances, but both with love of country.

Zelenskyy and Churchill have many similarities. They both have/had balls of steel, they are/were great orators. One protected Europe against Nazis and the other is now protecting Europe against Fascism. One had to wake up every morning and beg America for help and eventually he got it. The other has to beg for American help but unfortunately, the US president is not very receptive at present. (Can I please ask you to be respectful and spell the Ukrainian presidents name correctly?)
