20 years ago, I was here in New York, pitching a small startup from Europe. This week, I'm back here, once again in pitch mode, talking to friends old and new about democratizing preventive health with @Neko. I've always been obsessed with building the most amazing product possible. And with Neko, the end goal is to truly change consumer behaviour. We want as many people as possible to have access to quality preventive healthcare - not for the 1%, but for the 99%. MCP vs CLI for LLMs is the wrong discussion. People are debating at the wrong layer. Both work incredibly well as long as they are run through a repl like environment that can persist state. The funny thing about CLI is that CLI tools are usually accessed through BASH which happens to be a repl with persistent state (the file system), therefore cli works much better than mcp. But this isn't even close to being an intrinsic property of MCP. Just means that we need better harnesses. Right now the best repl for this are: - bash + fs - jupyter kernels - codemode type repls, usually quickjs LLMs understand the concept of forward evolving a system to solve a need very well. This comes from the agentic RL. They understand how to change the state of a codebase or acquire data from databases and then operate on it similarly to humans. But without an execution environment, they actually cannot do this properly. My bet? Sometime soon someone will (or has already?) create a embeddable, sqlite style mini execution environment that parses bash, typescript, or tool calls into a common IL execution plan that's easy to security check before executing. And design this specifically for durable execution environments. Then we will just connect cli, mcp, webmcp, whatever to that and it accepts any of the input modalities as they can all be represented as each other.

Knicks tickets officially went on sale this afternoon. Loyal Knicks fans supported this franchise through two decades of darkness… losing season after losing season. Now, after a championship, MSG is charging more than $1,000 per ticket on Opening Night for the worst seats in the building (400 section in the upper-deck) Mind you, this is NOT resale. These are Standard Admission via Ticketmaster. Secondary-market sellers charging outrageous prices is one thing. There is practically nothing MSG can to limit re-sellers. But these aren’t resale tickets—MSG itself, directly, is charging fans $1,039.50 apiece for seats in the 400s. That’s $4,158 for a family of four. (Just for the tickets - not to mention the overpriced food and drinks.) A multibillion-dollar franchise pricing its own non-wealthy fans out of the Garden on a night the fanbase has been dreaming about for 50 years. Shameful.

Nobody wants to hear this, but distribution is the new moat. Almost every founder pitching me their new AI startup has no audience to sell it to.

finding super technical founders with killer commercial/biz instinct is so hard and rare most just want to build product but building a prod is very diff from building a business

I just bought a new Model Y and can confidently say cars and Teslas are no longer the same product. A car is like a pony or horse. I still like driving a stick shift, it’s fun! Tesla with FSD is a transportation robot. I had one of the first Model 3s in 2017. FSD was basically slightly better cruise control. Great on the highway. But honestly felt oversold. So I have been driving a BMW for the past 3 years. Great horse, fun to drive. But tried FSD recently and holy shit — it’s a personal Waymo. Works perfectly. I just went to the Fremont factory to get my new car, entered my address 30+ mins away, pushed a button, and got home without doing a thing. I don’t think most people realize how good this is, probably because they only experienced an early version previously. This is 1000x better. Metaphor for AI writ large. Like trying GPT 3.5 and thinking it’s cute and hallucinates, and dismissing it…while Astra launches in 2026 and is orders of magnitude more capable.

Reading the AI/Math discussions, the same is happening in business with domain knowledge. When you are entry level at w company, the number 1 skill is to figure out how to figure things out. That's how domain knowledge is earned. Companies have to be careful to keep pushing people to figure out how to figure things out.
