Multi-millionaire-in-waiting, Merryn, admits she feels deeply for the billionaires. It’s why I love to give them my money, she confides.
How do working people on ordinary incomes replace the lost income tax from this lot. It's going to be expensive.

Reminder that absolutely none of this would have happened without the Green victory in Gorton and Denton. If there isn’t a successful left progressive party confronting Burnham and forcing his hand, you can forget about the Labour government getting anything else right

In a monetary society it is the government's responsibility & duty to ensure everyone has access to sufficient money to participate in that society. Cutting the state pension does nothing to improve ability to spend on other services. Burnham & Dugmore, just more neoliberal crap.
Oli Dugmore delivers one of the most powerful and well thought out answers I’ve seen this n a long time on #bbcqt 👏

This article is from August 2018, when I started going on about level boarding publicly. We did it, folks. You CAN make things better - don't let anyone tell you otherwise:
As I said in my speech at conference, a train without level boarding is a job you can't take. All new Great British Railways trains will be level boarding, as standard. We’re building a railway that everyone can rely on. mirror.co.uk/news/politics/r…

So this government has seen fit to order trains for their new PUBLIC railway through a PRIVATE financier at a cost that is 2-3x higher per vehicle than any fleet I’ve ever seen… £1bn for 145 carriages is insane. Even the HS2 order is cheaper per carriage! FFS THROW UP WIRES!
TransPennine Express is to receive in 2034 29 five-car battery electric Adessia Stream trains built by Alstom in Derby, DfT said tonight. Rock Rail will own the £1bn fleet which features level boarding and 3 wheelchair spaces, leasing it to TPE. Production starts in 2028.

GOOD THINGS: 🦽 low floor train for full level boarding 🚲 4 horizontal bike spaces BAD THINGS: ⭕ TPE is a 125mph intercity service, these trains aren't 📏 200m platforms, 130m trains, we did it again 💰 GBR brand but trains owned privately at high cost

Hey @g__j GMB is the OG union of electricity supply workers. The General Municipal & Boiler Makers union member built power station boilers then ran the power stations. We predate EPEA/EMA/Prospect and other ESI unions. I’m a proud member. It’s an excellent union 😌
Octopus Energy needs to recognise GMB. We have hundreds of members there who are clear: they want their union to negotiate with bosses. Other energy suppliers work with unions to improve pay and conditions. Why not you @OctopusEnergy?

Two senior Reform UK officials have stepped down following the broadcast of a Channel 4 News investigation. Undercover footage filmed by @Verbatim_Media, a group of investigative journalists, and verified by Channel 4 News revealed a plot to break the law on party funding at the highest levels of Reform UK. A party spokesman says Reform UK have launched an investigation and that Nigel Farage's close aide Dan Jukes and Reform's Head of Policy James Orr have stepped down “pending the outcome” to allow the investigation to “proceed independently and without prejudice”. Earlier this year the two men arranged for a US company to fund three influential polls that the party had commissioned. Separately, Reform UK has denied any wrongdoing or illegality. The most interesting part of this report is James Orr admitting on camera that there's very little financial support for Reform coming from the UK. The vast majority of their donations come from abroad. Foreign money trying to destroy UK democracy with Farage as the vessel.

This is a significant breakthrough to address this grotesque injustice. Congratulations to @UNGRIPP & @KimJohnsonMP for their determined campaigning for justice over so many years. Now need to see as soon as possible the details of process of securing justice for IPP prisoners.
Ending the historic injustice of IPPs has been announced by the Prime Minister. A huge moment for IPP families and campaigners. Without all their hard work and determination, we would not be in this position today. independent.co.uk/news/uk/cr…

For 37 years, privatised water companies have fleeced customers and poisoned our supply whilst extracting £88bn+ in dividends. Privatisation is a scam. It is absurd that successive governments have allowed this farce to continue. Put water into democratic public ownership, now.

"Andy Burnham urged to 'hold his nerve' after claimed rethink over Thames Water nationalisation." And it's bloody good advice. I've long suspected that lawyers within Defra have been ill advising ministers with their ultra cautious, ultra conservative approach. It's that very timidity nay weakness that the industry has exploited that got us into this mess in the first place. mirror.co.uk/news/politics/a…

The America vulture capitalists now running Thames Water are trumpeting Liz Barber, former CEO of Yorkshire Water, as the new saviour of the company. Would that be the same Liz Barber who put up customer's bills by 41% and then refused to give up her own bonus? Of course it would. Liz Barber was paid £1.32 million in her final year as CEO of Yorkshire Water. itv.com/news/calendar/2024-1…
