The TX Constitution has always guaranteed a right to bail. One cannot be denied a bail amount, except in very narrow exceptions written into the TX Constitution. That didn’t leave options to hold violent first-time non-capital offenders without bail. Defendants HAD to get a bond amount. DAs asked for a solution over and over. R said no. Abbott knows this. Ellen knows this. But they hope you do not know this. Rs did not provide the law change (Lege’s job) until 2026. These issues are on them. They simply want to take away more local control.
