Late to the club — but I just made my first startup investment as an @a16z scout for @speedrun. Felt like the right moment to re-introduce myself.
Over the last 1.5 years of building my own startup, I’ve lived through the highs and lows — launching an AI spiritual app that reached almost 1M users, growing multiple TikTok accounts to 100K+, and learning firsthand how hard (and magical) it is to build something people truly love.
Because of that, my investment lens is simple: I back founders who get distribution right. The ones who know how to turn curiosity into momentum.
I’m especially drawn to consumer products with unique distribution advantages, longevity startups, international founders, and AI ideas that make real lives better.

same bad experience here. we enabled 3DS on @whop well before a chargeback incident
payments still went through without 3DS verification. we even flagged it to Whop's team the same day. no reply. now we're eating the $2k+ chargeback and $300+ dispute fee @whop charge us
do not use @whop to accept payments
it’s a vibecoded payment system by dumb ass engineers
avoid losing your hard earned money
just stick to stripe or a good MOR that handles fraud otherwise you are so done like me yesterday

My first company went to Apple. My second, the largest short-video platform in Latin America, went to TikTok. My third is still running as Vietnam's biggest music streaming platform.
I built all three because I could see what was coming before anyone else did.

speedrun literally changed our lives.
applications for this @speedrun cycle are now open - and if you're an early founder/startup, shoot your shot.
more than just funding (because you can find that anywhere nowadays), here's what i found the most helpful for @cloutedhq:
1. mentorship: access to high-touch, dedicated help from the entire firm. seriously, you don't get this anywhere else.
working with @tkexpress11, @SamiraBehrouzan, @andrewchen, @tafokints, etc is awesome!
2. community: building startups is tough. but with speedrun, you get to meet so many other awesome founders + operators at the same stage as you.
many of whom became good friends like @CocoBuildsStuff, @jjschnyder, @audrlo!
3. credits: insane amounts of credits/savings through their partners. we probably would've run out of money from compute + AI costs alone if speedrun didn't exist.
apps are competitive, but there's never a better time for you to pitch and put your best foot forward.
