Because the concept of THORChain is inherently what we’re all here for: the freedom to move assets wherever we want, without intermediaries There was a time when permissionlessly moving between chains wasn’t possible, and TC pioneered bringing that vision to reality

. @CBarraford did amazing in the most hostile ambush ever and they couldn't even find a way to clip him to make him look bad despite doing the most; it actually won me over to the THORchain side of this "debate" whereas I was a bit skeptical before . . .

THORChain is going through a difficult path with many obstacles on its way. But it is a noble path. While unscrupulous kols, politicians, and the media are trying to erect big boundaries between people, @THORChain is building sustainable ties and breaking down borders

You mentioned that THORChain does money laundering during this stream like 10+ times @laurashin When you push narratives like that, can you at least try to keep definitions right, pls "Money laundering is the process of illegally concealing the origin of money" @THORChain doesn't conceal or obfuscate anything. In fact, the opposite. All transactions can be tracked and traced onchain
THORChain cofounder Chad Barraford reacts to a Chinese crime syndicate recommending THORChain to ZachXBT for money laundering Laura: "Today, ZachXBT released an investigation in which he went undercover and exposed a Chinese crime syndicate that laundered the $1.5 billion in Bybit funds. And in his conversation with this guy, Jimmy, at some point, Jimmy suggests to Zach that Zach can also get into the money laundering business, and he messages Zach and he says, quote, 'Think you can do it too. All you need is Thor cross chain.'" "So how do you feel about that? That this Chinese crime syndicate is recommending that he use THORChain to get into the business of money laundering." Chad: "So THORChain is not a money laundering service, right? There's no obfuscation of information whatsoever. When you trade from Ethereum to Bitcoin, it is clear text to everybody in real time of where that money is going from and where it's going to." "THORChain doesn't do mixing of any kind. That makes no sense. You can make the same argument about, like, well, you should become a Bitcoin miner because you could make the argument in any decentralized protocol. What's the difference?" Taylor: "I mean, I'll also say the reason that we met Jimmy was because of the THORChain Discord. Literally, the money launderers are in the THORChain Discord." Chad: "Yeah. And I'm sure the people on, like, Silk Road were in the IRCs or the Bitcoin forum, right? Like, that's not indicative of anything other than just a diverse community around it."

Up front admission: I haven't watched this in full, I skipped around a lot and listened to ~2-3 minute segments. Of the stuff I heard: Thumbs up to Taylor's recommendation that the TC treasury consider returning some of the swap fee earnings back to BitGet (Chad acknowledged he'd talk to the treasury about it). Thumbs down to whatever the weird angle was about "being attacked by thortards" and "social impact implications" -- I don't know what this has to do with the protocol. Hold community members accountable on an individual basis. TC community does have disagreements (many and often, in fact), including long-term ones. A good example is Boone, who is a core TC ethos advocate, but expresses a lot of ideas that get a lot of pushback. But he keeps on trucking, staying the course and proposing both good and bad ideas (subjective). Agree with Chad that Taylor is one of the biggest drama instigators in the TC space. Taylor, it would do you well to simply not behave that way. If you have shitty people in the TC community "making" you that way, then be the better person and don't fall to their level. The only aspect of this I'll concede to is that for many years the main TC X account was fairly drama-instigating; it's run by different individuals these days (past couple years). Thumbs up to Chad when he said it's completely inappropriate for community to say misogynistic or personally insulting shit. Overall: hope both Laura and Taylor learned something. And I appreciate Chad continuing to have an open mind.
I host THORChain core dev @cbarraford and @tayvano_ on the Bitget hack: what a Mimir vote can and can't do, the per-chain signing halt three nodes could trigger, and who collects the fees when DPRK swaps to BTC. Monday 3:20pm ET x.com/i/broadcasts/1qKDzWEWe…

Both Laura and Taylor entered that interview with a hostile mindset, and it wasn't a debate, it was a 1v2. Despite that, I think it was a good conversation. And if the hosts didn't learn anything, I hope some of the viewers did.
Taylor presses THORChain cofounder Chad Barraford on why the protocol wasn't shut down when stolen funds were nearly 100% of one route Taylor: "Okay, so what happened in this case?So the admin key was used as an interim stop. And then the protocol was upgraded to take the actions. In reaction to a situation that was deemed to be bad by the protocol. Chad: "By a 2/3 majority." Taylor: "Okay. So why couldn't you do that in any case where, let's say, the majority of funds on a certain route are known to be directly stolen funds? What you did for THORFi, right? You take an interim action and then you do whatever you want to do." Chad: "Right. So the action you're referring to is, like, turn off trading, for example, right? To be clear, the admin key that we're talking about doesn't even exist in the code base today. It did a while back, but it no longer exists. It was removed, I don't know, a year ago, a year and a half, I don't remember how long ago it was." "But even if it still was around, you want the protocol to turn off its entire system and all the trading that it does, and the source of revenue and income, for 1 to 2 weeks every time some external exchange or external thing gets hacked." Taylor: "I'm advocating for it if that's the only functionality you have, right? And the vast majority of funds. So, like, for example, the XRP to ETH route, right? We can look at the numbers, but it was not 20%. It was not 50%. It was nearly 100% of assets on that route for that period of time that were directly stolen funds." "If you turned it off, I'm not saying a time limit. I'm saying any amount of time, right? That would have cut them off somewhere else, right? And then you wouldn't have laundered stolen funds for DPRK." Chad: "No, that's not right. That's not correct."

I agree with Chad, as all swaps, sender and recipient addresses are transparent in Thorchain. With all this in mind, there can be no money laundering.

BREAKING: Chinese illicit actors laundering funds from the $387M Bitget exploit on behalf of the alleged DPRK attackers are openly asking for support with orders in public Discord servers and Telegram channels of services they use. Notably, Alias 4 (below) was also seen laundering funds from the Kelp DAO $292M exploit earlier this year. I've observed the same pattern after multiple TraderTraitor attributed exploits, and I've closely tracked these groups. I plan to share more of my data on them in coming weeks. Currently, funds are being chain-hopped via bridges and being deposited into mixing services such as Wasabi. THORChain's Zcash support is just getting started... Just days ago, on October 2, the official $ZEC pool on @THORChain went live, with every THORChain node now watching the @Zcash blockchain directly. According to official communications, the $ZEC pool is in soft-launch phase, with liquidity expected to grow significantly over time. Earlier today, THORChain even added a fresh $51,000 to the pool, which is now deep enough for small swaps to run efficiently, while the integration grows to accommodate larger transactions. Just the beginning... bscnhive.com/thorchain-now

WSX NEWS: 🔥 THORChain @THORChain has taken another major step toward native $ZEC support, with the Zcash liquidity pool officially going live on October 2 after the network completed its latest churn. Every THORChain node is now monitoring the @Zcash blockchain, creating a permissionless liquidity venue for $ZEC. The integration is still in its early phase, with native trading positioned as the next step and liquidity expected to deepen over time. The latest community updates also show roughly $51K in additional liquidity added to the pool Giving the rollout more depth as the Zcash integration continues to develop. 👀 The ZEC expansion is only getting started, with more liquidity and broader trading functionality still ahead.

ZEC went live first. ⚡️ Its simpler integration made it the natural first step. Now you can trade ZEC on THORXMR while the team continues preparing the next big arrival: Monero. XMR is coming. The countdown is on. Trade ZEC today: thorxmr.com #XMR #ZEC #THORChain
As part of the $ZEC soft launch, the THORChain Treasury just added ~$51K of liquidity to the pool. Pool depth is now $63.45K, enough for small swaps to get decent execution. ⚡
