We have blocked a small number of people on this site. Our account is run by Eileen and a team of volunteers, all of whom manage the posts in between the core helpline work. Its extremely upsetting for people doing stressful work answering helpline telephone calls to have pages of nasty messages directed at them. We believe some of these messages relate to the funding of @WBINC_Doc which has nothing to do with us. Our helpline has supported over 17k whistleblowers and 10k families of abuse victims and those people answering those calls and supporting people in crisis do not need to be reading nasty posts.

Given the shocking reaction to the below documentary we are so glad that we decided to contribute to it in the final two weeks of production as clearly it has opened a huge can of worms.

I agree Artur and that is why @TransparencyTF and I are having a meeting with @CompassnInCare next week to discuss. We are all too invested & should be agreeing a joint way forward although I will define I do not wish include WBUK, the Fair Banking APPG or Protect in those discussions. None of whom in my experience have shown any integrity just a focus on their own income & self promotion. I may be wrong but that's my personal opinion.

CLEAN RIVER, DIRTY LETTER Imagine your local stream is basically a bin with water in it. You ask the authorities to sort it out for years. Nothing happens. So you grab a digger and do it yourself. Then the authorities finally show up, with a letter. That is the story of @paulpowlesland, a 40 year old barrister at Garden Court Chambers who lives on a boat on the River Roding in East London. He also runs the River Roding Trust, a small local charity. Early this year Paul Powlesland and a crew of volunteers spent 10 days clearing 250 metres of Alders Brook, a small stream that feeds the Roding. They hired a digger for around £1,000. They pulled out more than 200 bags of rubbish, including needles, old appliances and even weapons. The stream came back to life. Fish, dragonflies, herons and irises all returned. Within a week the Environment Agency turned up. Then came a letter saying the work was done without an environmental permit. The maximum punishment for that offence is 2 years in prison. @guardian broke the story on 17 June 2026 and @Channel4News followed. The Environment Agency said permits exist to stop unintended harm. Its list of worries included digging that widened and deepened the channel, trees and bank plants removed, silt released into the water, a risk of spreading invasive species and a flood defence in Barking where the excavation exposed tie rods. Fair points on paper. Paper is where the Environment Agency does its best work. Paul Powlesland says the same agency ignored illegal sewage and dumped waste on the same river for decades, then found its enthusiasm for enforcement the moment a volunteer picked up a digger. What happened next? On 25 June the Environment Agency dropped the prosecution threat and sent a warning letter instead. It said the trust showed a genuine commitment to improving the local environment. Paul Powlesland called it a victory for common sense, for now. He asked for a meeting with the Environment Agency chief executive to demand a Thames Water sewage fix plan and to make the Roding a pilot for working with volunteers. I could not find any public report that the meeting happened. In July the Ilford South MP Jas Athwal hosted a meeting in Parliament on Roding pollution. Thames Water said it is drawing up plans to cut the length of sewage spills by 50% by 2030, depending on funding ...

Not sure as they don’t have much, it looks to be a strategy to try to anchor the verdicts using Confirmation Bias; it was weak to start with and it’s even more shaky after Mondays C5 Programme. Jayaram & Brearey should be the most worried IMHO.

I don’t think it is accurate to say that Whistle-blowers UK was “singled out” by the documentary. WBUK & the proposed Office of the Whistle-blower were central to the concerns the documentary set out to examine. The programme raised specific questions about governance, accountability, funding, commercial interests and the structure being proposed for the Office. WBUK featured prominently because of its role in developing and promoting that model and because concerns had already been raised about those matters. Very similar concerns have been raised about the FBB APPG, which has failed to expose the real frauds on swaps & FRL's for years whilst allegedly representing victims of those frauds but still accepting bank funding. That is quite different from selecting WBUK as an arbitrary target. Whether people agree with every conclusion reached by the documentary is a separate question, but the reason WBUK featured so heavily was apparent from the subject matter being investigated.
