It will never stop being astounding that a bunch of men said “we are women!” and a bunch of people, including those in government, said “ok!” and then demonized any woman who said “well this is obviously bullsh-t.”

I see posts like this from trans rights activists all the time, and it needs to stop. Bowie, Tyler, Lou Reed, Bolan and Iggy Pop showed there was no wrong way to be a man. Makeup, heels and femininity didn’t make them women and they never said it did. Calling them “trans” imposes an ideological framework on their work that wasn’t there. It portrays trailblazers who challenged sex stereotypes as followers of a doctrine. That’s rewriting history, and it’s enormously disrespectful to the artists and all of us who were liberated by them.

Such a shame supposed news outlets like @Channel4News don’t seem to be interested in the ‘why’ women are having to crowd fund or find sponsors to get the law applied
