On behalf of the British people, I would like to apologise for the slave trade. I am sorry we were the first great power in history to turn its guns on it. I am sorry it cost us around 2,000 sailors to free 150,000 people they would never meet. I am sorry the rest of the world took so long to follow. Slavery did not begin with Britain. It is as old as civilisation. Babylon wrote it into law. Rome built an empire on it. The Vikings sold Englishmen through the slave market at Dublin. In 1625 Barbary corsairs took 60 men, women and children out of a Cornish church; by 1640 Parliament was told 3,000 to 5,000 English people were held in Algiers alone. Every great power of the age took part in the Atlantic trade. Portugal and Spain for a century before an English ship did. Then the Dutch, the French — and the British, who in the eighteenth century carried more than anyone. That is the record. It is not disputed here. Then a nation turned on the trade that had made it rich. Wilberforce's bill was beaten year after year. On 25 March 1807 it passed. Then Britain did the part the critics never mention — it sent the Royal Navy to enforce it. The West Africa Squadron sailed in 1808, two ships for 3,000 miles of coast, and hunted slavers for nearly sixty years. Britain paid Spain and Portugal to open their ships to search. HMS Black Joke ran down the slaver El Almirante in 1829 and found 466 people in her hold. Around 2,000 British sailors died doing it — most of fever, to free people they would never meet. 1,600 slave ships seized. 150,000 Africans set free. In 1833 Parliament borrowed £20 million to end slavery across the Empire. The debt was not finally redeemed until 2015. The United States needed a civil war. Cuba held slaves until 1886. Brazil until 1888 — eighty-one years after Westminster voted. Yes, we took part in the trade. Every power of the age did. None of them fought it like we did. So yes. I will apologise. I am sorry it cost us so much. I am sorry the rest of the world took so long to follow. That is not something you apologise for. That is something you teach. #history #britishhistory #royalnavy #westafricasquadron

Difference is people like Brittin work with creatives & see how new tech can be adapted to be used creatively. Sadly a small minority of vocal fans dont. They cant even see further than their bedroom door & crawl under the duvet shutting themselves off further from reality

The script wasn't AI, and it was better than most of the scripts we've had for the last ten years. I certainly don't want to see Doctor Who made with AI, but I'll take it over more of the same tone of series we've had in recent years.

Agree. People saying it wasn't good are prob the same ones who praised 'Space Babies' for being excellent Doctor Who.

Quick reminder that a few months back a dinghy carrying over 120 people arrived in England and the only 3 women on board were all dead and absolutely nobody gave a fuck. I repeatedly asked journalists like @DPJHodges why he doesn’t think it’s a newsworthy story worth investigating but he didn’t bother answering.

RADA-trained actors who could’ve stayed quiet and taken the work. They didn’t- they realised British theatre had been captured by the ‘progressive’ establishment- and decided to build something real. Shakespeare played straight- the canon treated as living work. New writing allowed to be bold. Actors trained with rigour, not slogans. If you want culture that still believes in excellence and reality, follow the people actually making it. Follow and support @thebasecreates. I do.

An idea for a rough test.. Taking the excellent 'Wheel' animation made by @TardisTimegirl and combining it with an upscaled and colourised telesnap in seedance 2. The animation guides the camera and the characters (to a degree).

Perfectly put
Mr. Davies, For a brief, fleeting 10-15 years, WE ALMOST HAD IT. The years between 1998-2012, roughly, we were very close, when no one really gave a damn either way. I remember it distinctly. An enormous shift in attitude’s & acceptance had occurred, after the horrors of being gay in the 80’s to the early-mid 90’s. I was NOT alone in feeling this, even amongst the upper echelons of the ‘Gay Mafia’ I used to hang around with said the same. The original aim was EQUALITY & we were, more or less, there. Then along came identity politics, gender ideology & Que*r Theory, which screwed everything up. Stonewall’s CEO, Ruth Hunt, said in 2014/15, & I quote, that their shift in focus was “known to be controversial, that it would be difficult, that people would LOSE by that & that herself & the staff thought THAT WAS A PRICE WORTH PAYING.” In other words, they KNEW this would receive pushback, yet were unwilling to listen or engage with those of us who had serious concerns. A subsequent Stonewall CEO, Nancy Kelley, called lesbians “sexual racists” for not including men in their dating pool. Michael Cashman called for those who had questions, predominantly women, about this shift to be “defecated upon” & there was “no debate” to be had. And NOW look where we are. Look around at the utter mess we’re in. If you’re going to “look at yourself as an idiot”, at least be aware of WHY you might feel that way & what part you, yourself, played in it. You cannot cheerlead & encourage an ideology that has caused so much destruction & damage, & then pretend to be flummoxed as to the reasons WHY everything has got so much worse. Just so we’re clear…
