After nearly 3 years, my time at Alpitronic has come to a close - and I'm leaving with a lot of gratitude for the company, the team, and what we built together.
When I joined
@Alpitronic in November 2023 as the second hire in the US sales/product/engineering org, there was a single HYC400 installed publicly in North America - one I had installed weeks prior at
@CircleKStores. The industry looked very different:
@ionnaofficial wasn't yet named - just an automaker JV most expected to amount to nothing.
→ Now IONNA leads charging driver experience with well over 1,000 ports live.
Almost no vehicle on the road could charge at the then-market max of 350kW.
→ Now there are multiple vehicles that can charge at 400kW+.
Nearly every OEM had announced NACS, but not a single non-
@Tesla EV in North America could actually use a Supercharger. There weren't even adapters yet.
→ Now there are native-NACS vehicles from all major OEMs, and non-Tesla NACS is becoming common (Alpitronic leads non-Tesla NACS deployments).
NEVI was the main story, with very little action behind it.
→ Now new deployments are primarily privately funded, as charging becomes a real business and a way to enable car sales.
No one thought
@Walmart would build their own charging network.
→ Now Walmart has over 100 sites open with significantly more in motion.
Full circle: the US Circle K Charge sites my team and I built (and future-proofed) in my previous role are being taken over by IONNA and upgraded to HYC400s.
I leave with thousands of ports deployed across 40+ states and 5+ major networks (IONNA, Walmart, Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging, bp pulse, Applegreen Fast Charge and more), and over 2M charging sessions. I still remember session #1 in North America.
From a hardware perspective, charging reliability is largely a solved problem. I could not be more proud to have played a part in that.
What's next? More to come soon - but don't worry, my passion for the mission hasn't wavered. Charging must always work. ⚡️
