SEARCH FOR MISSING UMD STUDENT DILAN ASHAR UPDATE: The search for a 22-year-old University of Maryland student who has been missing since Friday continues, with UMD police asking for the public’s assistance 🚨
Dilan Shaan Ashar was last seen in the early morning hours of October 2nd, where he was captured on surveillance video near the Terrapin Trail Garage at about 2:30am that morning.
Ashar does not have his cellphone, wallet or identification with him.
Investigators began searching the area after reviewing surveillance footage late October 2nd. Since then, authorities have used drones, K-9 teams and nearly 50 first responders in efforts to locate him.
On October 3rd, a university drone searched wooded areas near the Terrapin Trail Garage, followed later that day by a K-9 search.
The following morning, authorities conducted a systematic search covering approximately 110 acres around the garage. The operation involved nearly 50 first responders and nine dogs. Later that afternoon, a drone was used to search the area around the university golf course.
Since Ashar was reported missing, patrol officers have also repeatedly checked parking garages, wooded areas, Lake Artemesia and nearby parks, university officials said.
So far, the searches have produced no results. Authorities said they will continue checking those locations and expanding their search as investigators review additional surveillance footage.
The university also released two surveillance images showing Ashar outside the Terrapin Trail Garage on the morning of October 2nd. Anyone who was in the area around that time and may have seen Ashar—or someone who resembles him—is asked to contact university police at 301-405-3555.
University officials are also asking members of the community to review security-camera footage from homes, vehicles and businesses that could potentially capture Ashar’s movements.
Ashar’s family has also released a video appealing for help in locating him.
