I’ll be debating Ben aka Cleave to Antiquity who is a former Protestant who became Orthodox because of burning in his chest he prayed to Mary and believes Mary gave him, which convinced him to become Orthodox, and yep that’s actually true on what he believes happened.

One says Romanides returned the church to the Patristic center. The other says don't get your understanding from him. I thought they all believed the same thing? Doesn't the church interpret the fathers?

Looks like we have yet another case of the EOs demanding we debate them, and then pulling this kind of crap on us. The reality is that I didn’t make fun of Jay in way or do anything to him, but he is simply looking for an excuse to avoid doing the debate and following through on his challenge.
How about we all band together and see if we can make this thing happen? I am still willing to do a formal debate with Jay on a moderated platform. PSA is the topic.

This was a very disappointing dialogue.
The Eastern Orthodox proponent was adamant on claiming the theology of Fr. John Romanides as the dogmatic content of the Orthodox faith. He denied original sin, claimed the West fell in Augustine, and that Anselm of Canterbury invented penal substitution. The Protestant Tony Costa, whom I would disagree with on a number of issues, was able to refute the EO pastor from the Church Fathers. It is quite a spectacle to continue to see representatives of Orthodoxy continuing to deny basic soteriological truths enshrined in their own body of councils. This plague does not help the ecumenical dialogue nor the debate world, from which many of our young kids are getting their education.

Catholics will scream and shout about not learning Catholicism from a former Catholic or Protestant, while at the same time having no problem explaining non-Catholic theology themselves (like sola scriptura, sola fide, the Lord's Supper and water baptism to name a few). This is the peak of hypocrisy, arrogance, and double standards!
