Humbled and honoured to be a judge at the HSJ Patient Safety Awards and attend their spectacular awards ceremony. An inspiring celebration of teams whose dedication and innovation make care safer. Congratulations to all the finalists and winners! @HSJEditor@HSJnews
Great to see 'Sure Start' back (sort of), but I think it's reasonable to conclude from the conference speech by @YvetteCooperMP that the enthusiasm to significantly recover hospital performance in the near(ish) term that marked the Streeting period is waning.
Across my Trust and partner organisations I see amazing managers; values driven, smart, hard working and ethical. They work alongside all colleagues at every level in the trust with amazing clinicians, patients, communities and families. All lead together.
Great speech an' all. But I think we can conclude the AB's government does not have the same (unrealistic) expectations for NHS recovery that Starmer's did. That's largely a good thing, but I do worry we are normalising some pretty terrible performance
If I were @AConstance23 I'd be demanding @zubirahmed issues an apology to his managerial colleaugues before being allowed to work again in the Scottish NHS
The former minister and surgeon @zubirahmed had shared his views on NHS managers with me privately. Good to see that he has now decided to out himself as an idiot hsj.co.uk/workforce/ex-minis…

The question I would ask is 'are NHS commissioners purchasing care from care providers that threaten migrant staff in this way?' If they are, they should demand a change of behaviour
"There is modern slavery happening right now."
Migrant care workers are told to stay silent, accept poor treatment and endure exploitation because they are tied to a single employer.
It's a system that traps workers with abusive employers.
We need a better way. #FairVisasNow

Wes Streeting really did pick the best moment to resign. Avoided having to deal with the inevitable rise in the elective waiting list, and make any of the difficult decisions about how to move 1000s of NHS staff into Dept of Health
It looks like the government will have to (quietly) drop its flagship NHS promise (to cut NHS hospital waiting lists) writes @Jamesillman ahead of the Labour Party conference hsj.co.uk/expert-briefings/r…

A real loss to the system - and not a good sign of the government's commitment to the "left shift" toward primary/community care. I hope Claire finds an influential new role soon
Today’s Thirlwall report says that the move to a ‘no blame’ culture in the NHS in the 2000’s was a mistake.
I wrote about this for HSJ earlier in the year:-
