This and the Romney race are basically how we got Trump. Smart liberals hate when you toss this out in a univariate way. But, if EVERY candidate will be called Hitler no matter what they do - remember the Texan Bush speaking in perfect cadence to the NAACP - why NOT say "Fuck you" and run a ruthless ass-kicker?

I appreciate that a lot of liberals are implicitly conceding now that they did a smear campaign against George W. Bush that was mostly untrue to try to win the 2004 and 2008 elections. But, ya know, it doesn鈥檛 change the fact that you did that and our politics are worse for it.

i remember back in 2012 when the media ran the Romney said in a debate he put women into binders as if he was putting grown executives in chains at a fortune 500 I realized we had gone past the point of no return

When, IRL, "binders" was a *slightly* old fashioned term for a ringed notebook (I recall the word in use in college in the 1980s) & he was instructing staff to look for qualified female candidates for state jobs & finding enough that they had to group the resumes by field
