One of the most remarkable yet revealing spectacles is taking place in Brazil, just 8 days before its national elections. It's astonishing to watch, even though it's also unsurprising. The Brazilian left (with Lula's support) spent the last 6 years building and cheering an extremist and oppressive censorship regime. They came to revere the Supreme Court judge who oversaw this censorship regime and aggressively silenced, banned (and sometimes even arrested) their critics and opponents -- the globally notorious Alexandre de Moraes -- including during the 2022 presidential election, where Moraes constantly ordered the mass removal of posts critical of Lula while protecting the posts supporting him. Lula won by a tiny margin in 2022. But now Brazil's Supreme Court has a Bolsonaro-appointed judge, and he's on a spree, using the regime built by the left (though using just a fraction of what Moraes did) to order hundreds of posts critical of Flavio Bolsonaro removed on the ground that it is spreading "Fake News" (the story they are spreading is, in fact, false). And the Brazilian left is going apeshit. Overnight, they all sound like ACLU lawyers from the 1970s. They are all running around shrieking that it is only in tyrannies where censorship is used, and are extolling the virtues of free speech as if they're Voltaire.😂 All you have to do is a quick search of the tweets of almost every prominent left-wing Brazilian politician and lawyer who is screaming about the evils of CENSORSHIP, and you'll immediately find that they spent years explicitly defending Moraes' censorship system and insisting that free speech must be limited to prevent Fake News and hate speech. Even though some of us warned them over and over that one day this would be used against them, I guess they never believed it because they believe themselves to be so noble and truthful that nobody would ever try to similarly censor them (some on the Right now sound exactly like the leftists sounded for years: insisting that this new censorship from their judge is justified and the censorship used against them was tyranny, but most on the Right understand the tit-for-tat nature of what is being done). Yet again: even if you don't object to state censorship on ethical and moral grounds, you should always object to it just out of self-interest. If you build a Frankenstein, you'll lose control of the monster at some point. Best not to build monsters, but if you chose to, you have only yourself to blame when it turns against you.🤷‍♂️ The only thing worse than endorsing censorship is believing that only one side should get to do it.

The problem with this challenge is the people who assert that all art is political mean "I can interpret this as political if I use a definition of 'political' that's so broad as to be meaningless." I could draw a black dot on a paper and they would say it's about the plight of being a minority in a white world or something. The intention of the artist doesn't matter because they can make up whatever political interpretation they want, thus it becomes "political". It's like asking someone to guess what number you're thinking of, and then just saying you were thinking of a different number even if they guess right. It's disingenuous. Here's a video where I make fun of this sort of thing by "analyzing" the "deeper meaning" of a Filthy Frank video in a pseudo-profound tone. I made it in 2017. It's hardly even an exaggeration. In fact, there were people who thought I was being serious at the time.

If you can read this, then udnerstand one thing: if you are unable to be rationally quesitoned without descending into a spiral of hateful spite, then you are in no position of trying to debate politics online. Imbecile.

As predicted, the "You can't be Christian and enjoy Mushoku Tensei" posts keep coming in and they're going to keep coming, so I might as well address this now. There is no Christian moral teaching that dictates that you can only enjoy stories where the characters behave morally. Depiction within a show is not endorsement. Enjoying or appreciating a character is not approval of everything that character does. The presence of fan service does not automatically make an entire work forbidden to Christians, nor does it mean you morally approve of every scene in it. Whether something may cause a near occasion of sin or not depends significantly on the individual person watching. Stories of moral growth REQUIRE moral failure, and there's certainly no lack of either in this show. And most importantly: Truth, goodness and beauty can be recognized even in works that do not represent them perfectly. To reject this is to reject our current human condition altogether. You reject reality. Human beings are broken, but not devoid of goodness. Art can be ugly and beautiful. Deeply flawed characters can be worth admiration. It is an injustice on our part to not discern this goodness within secular works. If your standard is that Christians must reject these types of works, then you have confused moral discernment with moral quarantine. You are one step down the path to repeating the firmly unbiblical mistakes of the 1990s Satanic Panic. At best, these takes stem from people who simply don't understand Christian moral reasoning very well. That's fine; let's talk. At worst, it comes from a deeply rooted strain of Christian retreatism in American/western culture: one that begins with emotional disgust and then works backward, rewriting Christian morality until “this makes me uncomfortable” becomes “Christians can’t be allowed to enjoy this.” The latter is a group of people I will not be bowing down to. You've done enough damage, and I will not contribute. Many of this new generation of Christians will not be bowing down to it.
