The use of a surrogate endpoint in a clinical trial may allow faster approval of a novel treatment, but at the cost of increased uncertainty about treatment benefit. This paper presents guidance for surrogate endpoint evaluation bmj.com/content/394/bmj-2026…

What happened to 'statins save lives'? In this 31,000 person RCT over 7 years, CVD screening put 44.33% of people on statins (compared to 30.25% in non screening) but prevented neither deaths nor CV events (HR 0.96). Funny how I don't see this trial EVER being discussed by cardiologists. One major difference with this trial compared to so many other statin trials is that it is not funded by a statin maker. academic.oup.com/eurheartj/a…

What a treat to be invited onto @triggerpod Hosts with inquisitive minds, honesty and a sense of humour. An antidote to a MSM which too frequently possesses none of these things.

Im a huge fan of Mr Clarkson, but on this one, he is wrong. PSA is not a good test. We do not have a good way to accurately find young men with aggressive prostate cancer. Except see a doctor if you have symptoms or a family history or you've smoked. #GP #screening #PSA
Until last week, men over 50 were entitled to a free PSA prostate cancer check. But the government has now decided to withdraw that right. I cannot for the life of me work out what their reasoning might be.
