Technology, excessive screen time, no consistent parents in the home, minimum wage not increasing as COL is, legalizing marijuana, Covid…. Unfortunately the list is pretty endless for why this generation is such a mess.
When I was growing up, basically everyone I knew had a summer job by 15 or 16.
Lifeguarding, bagging groceries, mowing lawns, scooping ice cream. It's just what you did.
Now I meet teenagers and early 20-somethings who've never had a single paycheck and aren't in any rush to get one.
Pew's actual data backs this up too. Over half of teens had summer jobs back in 2000. Now it's barely a third.
Maybe I sound like my own parents saying this, but what changed?
