Vancouver born & raised 🏙️ Running for School Board 🎓 Service. Students. Community. Running with the Vancouver Liberals 🇨🇦

Vancouver, British Columbia
I’m excited to announce that I’m running for Vancouver School Board with the Vancouver Liberals. I was born and raised in Vancouver, and I’m proud to put my name forward to serve the city that raised me. I’m running for strong classrooms, safe and welcoming schools, responsible leadership, and a School Board that listens to students, parents, educators, and communities. Vancouver has given me so much. Now I’m ready to give back. Let’s do this ✨
The Vancouver Liberals announce their School Board Candidates. Meet them.

Hey George, your post makes us curious: How do you square this with your support for ABC Vancouver? The Vancouver Liberals have put forward a substantial, serious plan to cut red tape, speed up construction and make Vancouver easier to do business in. We’ve committed to: • Speeding up construction: Replace Vancouver’s separate Building By-law with the B.C. Building Code and consolidate the City functions involved in development approvals into one department. • Cutting City Hall red tape: Review overlapping and outdated bylaws and create a single entry point for business permits, with a target of getting approvals down to three months. • Making it easier to start and grow a business: Modernize old zoning and business rules so, for example, small businesses can manufacture and sell products in the same location. • Bringing more commerce into neighbourhoods: Make it easier to open small shops, cafés and restaurants, simplify temporary-shop and market permits, and allow businesses greater flexibility to share space. • Getting serious about economic development: Restore the Vancouver Economic Commission to attract investment, promote Vancouver and support businesses trying to grow here. • Protecting good jobs: Create an Industrial Land Reserve to protect employment lands and keep industrial businesses and well-paying jobs in Vancouver. • Helping businesses through major construction: Cut property taxes by 50% for businesses affected by SkyTrain construction and provide incentives for landlords to reduce rents for affected tenants. • Reducing unnecessary costs: Cut property taxes in half for family doctors and walk-in clinics, create lower-cost creative space through an Artist Land Reserve, and reduce the burden of policing costs on festivals and community events. All of this can be found in our platform at vancouverliberals.com. Our approach sounds pretty consistent with the argument you’re making in your post. So we're genuinely interested, George: - why are you defending ABC's record? and - what is ABC offering on red tape, permitting, construction and economic growth that you think is better?
Red tape isn't free. A housing project stuck in limbo for two years? Those holding costs land on your rent. A shop waiting months for a sign permit? The owner's paying rent on an empty space. Vancouver needs faster approvals, not more bureaucracy. #VanPoli

Yesterday, we met with Liberal mayoral candidate Kareem Allam to outline our concerns about his “War on Rats.” He was inflexible on reducing garbage pickup, providing stainless steel compost bins, sealable recycling containers, and eradicating our habitat. We are concerned.

Vancouver needs more used book stores. But, honestly, can any city have enough? 🥰

Day two of advance voting continued with our team hitting downtown trying to get out that vote. I also wanted to introduce @DrNooshaMehdian . She’s brilliant, caring, passionate and we need her elected to the school board with me and the rest of the team. Together we can!

Live shot of ABC candidate Lina Vargas moments after filming her campaign video. No wonder ABC wants to go after banana barriers.

Thanks for all you do! From fighting fires, to snacks for schools. 🙏🏽
Why do Vancouver firefighters endorse candidates for city council? City council makes decisions that shape our service and our members' lives, from funding and staffing to whether firefighters can afford to live in the city they protect. So we make sure candidates ... 🧵 1/3

Enough of using LGBTQ+ kids as political punching bags. SOGI 123 is about age-appropriate resources, inclusion and preventing bullying. Protecting children means making sure every student can go to school safely, learn and be treated with dignity. As a school trustee, I’ll stand up for that.
Heather Maahs is absolutely right about SOGI-123 materials grooming children. Shame on BC "Conservative" leader Lorne Doerkson for joining with the Eby NDP and media, and throwing Maahs under the bus for speaking the truth. OneBC wants SOGI scrapped 100% and won't back down on this issue. We need to protect our children and keep our schools focused on real academics.

Vancouver doesn't need another City Hall to house more bureaucrats. It needs to invest in its frontline services, and that will be my priority, and the priority of a Vancouver Liberal government. Together, we can.

If elected to the Vancouver School Board, I promise tackling child hunger will be one of the causes I fight hardest for. No child should be sitting in class hungry and expected to learn. Our Vancouver Liberals platform has real commitments to support students and families, and I’ll push to strengthen access to nutritious school meals and make sure this stays a priority. Every child deserves to walk into school ready to learn, regardless of their family’s income.

Seniors helped build Vancouver. They deserve to be able to age here with dignity, safety and independence. A great city looks after people at every stage of life, from our kids in the classroom to the seniors who helped shape the communities we call home. Proud to support Kareem and the Vancouver Liberals’ plan to make Vancouver work better for every generation.
Seniors built this city. They should be able to stay in it. Safer sidewalks. Bikes and scooters off the footpath. Free parking at Locarno and Spanish Banks. Clean washrooms. More disabled and caregiver parking. Faster seniors housing. Relief for new walk-in clinics. Senior centres that double as cooling spaces and more.
