I plan to write a couple of articles about my criticisms of Bitcoin. For now, though, just to put these points out into the world:
Hyperbitcoinization is the replacement of the world reserve currency with bitcoin. It is NOT the use of bitcoin as a store of value, which is already happening. The world has many, many SOVs.
Hyperbitcoinization is the entire purpose of Bitcoin, and yet it is not possible with Bitcoin today.
Hyperbitcoinization is not possible because Bitcoin has decided to become digital gold, not digital cash.
Bitcoiners say this vision still works because you can just use bitcoin to back whatever the real currency is. This is a near comical departure from the original goal because using another SOV like gold this already could have been done without Bitcoin.
Some Bitcoiners will claim that Bitcoin is digital cash through the Lightning Network. But the Lightning Network reintroduces counterparty risk. It basically removes all of the safety and security they have worked so hard for. If you plan for bitcoin to be adopted through the Lightning Network, then you are openly asking for 99% of transactions not to have Bitcoin-level settlement and security. What is the point of all that purity if you don't extend it to virtually all of the usage on your network?
Finally, Bitcoiners culturally have become way too comfortable with power which would wish to kill it if it actually worked. Most of the float and flow is in the hands of US government regulated institutions. Either Bitcoin has put its head between a lion's jaws, or the US gov does not feel threatened by Bitcoin's ability to fulfill its mission in the slightest.
Finally, the fun part. The best way to achieve hyperbitcoinization is to spread the payment rails first, not the asset itself. This is because of the classic problem with the asset being too volatile. An asset is only going to replace the United States dollar as the global reserve currency once it is less volatile. However, this will happen inevitably because a hyperinflation will happen inevitably.
A hyperinflation basically means that the United States dollar is gonna become more volatile than most assets. At this stage, it would be very easy for many cryptocurrencies to look like a better option. What they need is not price stability per se, what they need is global distribution.
If the payment rail spreads first, the distribution is already achieved before anyone even thinks about using the crypto itself. Obviously, I'm thinking about Zcash here.
The final question we're left with is why the payment rail would spread in the first place. The answer is very simple, but for crypto, it has been unattainable: transactions need to be so cheap, so fast, and supported in such a large number, that it is actually a more convenient payment rail in its own right.
What I'm describing has basically been the dream for crypto the entire time. What is exciting about Zcash is that with Tachyon, it just may be this chain.
Hyperzcashization becomes possible in a scenario where Zcash as a payment rail is so convenient that it spreads throughout the world. Then when a hyperinflation takes place, it will be trivial to switch from using dollars on Zcash to using Zcash itself.
Based on my understanding here, the dream is still alive through Zcash.
