I worked with my Southern California colleagues to secure $10 million from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for the Orange County Veterans Cemetery at Gypsum Canyon. Today, I joined them again by sending a bipartisan letter urging Gov. Newsom to ensure the CA Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) accepts the $10 million and not allow unnecessary bureaucratic delays to jeopardize the funding. As a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate on behalf of the veterans in our region who are eager to see this cemetery completed.

They immediately established the U.S. military’s first one-way attack drone squadron in the Middle East and launched the first aerial attack drone from a U.S. Navy warship. The task force made history in June when an unmanned surface vessel assisted the rescue of a downed helicopter crew in regional waters, and in July when CENTCOM employed a one-way-attack unmanned surface vessel for the first time in combat. The REJTF team is now developing the world’s first multinational attack drone unit, building on the incredible milestones achieved over the past 52 weeks. I was notified today that $25 million is being awarded by the Bureau of Reclamation to create new groundwater storage and conveyance infrastructure that will capture water and provide an emergency supply for southern Californians. Time is precious, especially when it comes to timely health care. Prior authorization is a process where health insurers require doctors to obtain approval before a patient can receive certain treatments, or the insurer may not cover it. This process can lead to significant delays in care, which often worsens health outcomes for patients, and creates a significant paperwork burden for healthcare providers. That is why I cosponsored H.R. 3514, the Improving Seniors’ Timely Access to Care Act, which would require Medicare Advantage plans to implement electronic prior authorization processes to speed up the process and allow the Department of Health and Human Services to create shorter timeframes for prior authorization responses.
