#FactCheck One of the most damaging alleged PSYOPs today involved an audio recording purportedly generated with AI and made to sound like @NRFYemen commander Lt. Gen. Tariq Saleh @tarikyemen. The recording reportedly presented Saleh as ordering or announcing a withdrawal and was amplified by Adel al-Hasani @Adelalhasanii to his audience of roughly half a million followers, giving the recording significant reach. @aljoumhouriyatv reports that National Resistance military media has accused the Houthis of fabricating the audio and falsely attributing it to Saleh in an effort to mislead the public and damage morale. National Resistance military media described the alleged fabrication as an attempt to create confusion and influence perceptions of the battlefield. It has also stressed that any genuine statements or positions from Lt. Gen. Tariq Saleh will be released through official National Resistance military media channels. This is legitimately terrible for OpenAI --- but also Anthropic --- and it relates to their work in drug discovery. I read this as: prompts will be monitored and potentially acted on if we think there’s something scientifically and/or commercially valuable being disclosed. Now, the big problem for Anthropic is that they are increasingly seen to be competing with their customers. Outside of SF, many people also think of OpenAI/ChatGPT and Anthropic/Claude as somewhat interchangeable companies and products --- aka, if OpenAI do something, surely Anthropic will do it too? As so much IP relates to drug targets and people disclose these to Claude, I think we will see a lot of pharma companies stop using these tools or put up a lot of internal guardrails.
