At today’s Inter-Advisory Councils Meeting, I presented new voluntary Guidelines on the functioning of Advisory Councils, based on contributions from the Councils themselves. Advisory Councils are essential to the Common Fisheries Policy. They bring different voices around the same table and help turn dialogue, expertise, and experience into better policy. 💬Strong dialogue and mutual trust are indispensable if we want Advisory Councils to continue playing their full role.

We present today our evaluation of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) Regulation, covering the period from 2014 to 2024. This decade of the CFP has put Europe on a more sustainable path, protecting better the marine resources our fishers rely on. Our governance is stronger, and our international leadership on ocean protection is clear. However, climate change, limited marine space, increased operational costs and rapid geopolitical changes keep testing our resilience. Fish stock rebuilding is lagging, impacting fishers and coastal communities. Today’s High-Level Dialogue with 🇮🇸 Minister Hanna Katrín Friðriksson marked a milestone in EU–Iceland cooperation under our MoU.
