NYC-DSA believes Lina Khan is the right leader to stand up for working class New Yorkers on the EDC board. Khan is a visionary who is committed to reimagining the role of government as a tool to protect and serve regular people.

UPDATE: FEC filings show that Antonio Reynoso's super PAC, Real Fight NYC, was NOT funded by labor unions. The vast majority of funding was from dark money group Next NY. Only one union, AFT, contributed. At least $126,000 came from pro-Israel donors and pro-Israel NORPAC.

Progressives and Democrats may have stopped talking about climate change but socialists never did. NYC-DSA legislators have been winning more funding every year for publicly owned, union built renewable energy. The biggest obstacle is Kathy Hochul, a Democrat.

Freedom is only possible when we have the conditions for the good life — healthcare, housing, education, and dignity on the job. But the system is rigged and our planet poisoned by billionaires, bosses, and war profiteers. This 4th of July we recommit ourselves to remaking it. To fight for liberation from Palestine to Puerto Rico, for a Green New Deal, for the world we deserve.

New Yorkers are sweating through a fossil fueled heatwave and ConEd is shutting off the AC. Capitalism is the problem. ConEd is a corporation that puts its shareholders first. They charge us more, they get richer, and our grid falls apart. We need to take our power back.

ConEd’s CEO made $20 million last year - a $5 million raise. More than 12% of your monthly payment goes straight to ConEd’s shareholders. But if ConEd shuts off your power in a heatwave, they won’t even discount your bill.

State Gov has the power to build a cleaner, cheaper, reliable grid. It’s a scandal that @GovKathyHochul has been sitting on it for years. We forced her to allocate $100M for public renewables this year. Give it to the city to build! @NYSERDA has a huge surplus. Spend it!

I’ll say the same thing I said when CHPE was being discussed several years ago: We should be building public renewable projects across the state instead of relying so heavily on Canadian hydro.

As we celebrate this Fourth of July in the extreme heat, we must reflect on the progress we have made and the work we have left to do. The great American experiment cannot continue if we sell our country out to climate deniers, fossil fuel executives, and for-profit utilities.

War criminals shouldn’t be allowed to walk freely in NYC. As the Gaza genocide continues, Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir is visiting our city next week for a summit at the UN. He’s responsible for the torture of Palestinian detainees, the abuse of freedom flotilla peace activists including New Yorkers, the expansion of illegal settlements and promotion of settler violence, and openly espousing his genocidal intent to ethnically cleanse Palestine.  Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom have all placed sanctions and travel restrictions on him for his crimes against humanity. New York shouldn’t be a safe haven for him either. We’re calling on @NewYorkStateAG to meet with his victims, investigate, and prosecute. And we’ll be assembling by the UN on Tuesday at 4pm to make it clear: if genocidal war criminals come to our city, they’ll be greeted by people demanding justice.
