I have submitted a question to ask the Scottish Government to provide evidence that a school bag will close the attainment gap. Character bags can cost between £11-£15 Branded rucksacks between £15-£20 Why are they squandering taxpayers money?!
SNP to 'squander' £2.7m on handing free bags to school pupils - at cost of £28 a bag - scottishdailyexpress.co.uk/n… scottishdailyexpress.co.uk/n…

What about stigmatising these kids thst do take /use these bags as they could be looked upon as the poor kids - saw this mentioned last night on here - could lead to bullying (shouldn’t but could)

Someone, somewhere is making an awful lot of money off of the incompetence of the #SNP This is getting ridiculous and our huge tax take is being spent recklessly.

I worry about the stigma attached to the bags… kids can be cruel and having a “poor” bag may lead to bullying.. also the money could have been used elsewhere. #JustMyOpinion 🤷‍♀️

Good question, at same time can you also ask who authorised an SNP MP to travel against FCO guidelines…..outside her remit

Eligible families already receive over £330 to help with starting school. And won't children with fashionable bags simply look down on those using the government-issued ones? What problem is this solving?

Another massive waste of tax payers money. What a fucking abysmal government we have.... Kids don't want gov provided school bags (I know, I have 3 kids) they want spiderman, paw patrol and bluey bags. And they hardly have anything to put it in anyway.

Why didn't they just give them a voucher redeemable at parents choice? This all smells a bit fishy!

it'll single kids out as from the "poorer" household - choosing school bag with your parent/kids is best part of going to school and SNp are taking this away

Send them this! They are indestructible. Used one every day for over 4 years and looks brand new. Buying in bulk would be about £1 a bag. Where is the money going?

As a teacher, I cannot emphasise enough how much education staff do not agree with this. What an absolute waste of money!

The procurement procedure needs investigated Heard it’s the same company that supplied the baby box that won this tender

Don’t give the kiddies bags BUT Make sure the millionaires who live in palaces and dine off gold plates get tens of millions of pounds. Did you complain about taxpayers money squandered on that?

NHS test and trace£29.5billion. PPE Contracts £14.9 billion. Post Brexit border checks£4.7 billion. Total £49.1 billion, totally wasted, sit on your arse and be quiet.

No one claimed it would close the attainment gap from what I’ve seen, it’s not 28 for a single bag with nothing in it, it’s a package with stationary and resources for early learning as well as help books for parents. Msp can’t do a bit of research is embarrassing and not fit

And yet my wife buys stationery for the kids to use as the school doesn't have enough money for pencils.

Because rather than fixing actual problems they can virtue signal that 10,000s of children have been given a head start by the SNP ignoring that it does nothing for their life chances....but hey some Chinese sweat shop churned out some cheap bags for you to wear.

Exactly, I never paid any more than £15 on my daughter's bags and she always had one she wanted.

Procurement is skilfully done to maximise cost to the tax payer & enrich loyal party members.

Who owns the supplier being used @MeghanSCUP that’s an avenue that needs exploring?! Is there a potential conflict of interest, which is cost the tax payer dearly.

Hmm. Use the money to improve CfE and reduce violence, or virtue signal with free bags, most of which will never be used?

All it’s going to do is show up the kids who’s parents aren’t in a position to buy themselves. It is also part of the starting school experience with an excited child, going to pick a bag that expresses their individual character. Shocking waste of funds

I showed the picture of the prototype to my daughter who has just started P1 and asked if she would prefer this to her Disney Princess one. She laughed and said no. £28 a bag is ridiculous. Parents won’t use them and the kids that use them will take stick from the other kids.
